I havent seen much updates on the Morritt's lately on the forum. Anyone have any input lately?

Any update from after the hurricanes?

We're heading out there 3rd week of Sept and hopefully the upcoming storms and hurricanes arent going to affect the GC much.

Can't wait. hope the storms bypass the area.

Although GC mostly spared from Gustav, East End more affected than other areas from what I have gleaned. Tend to think by end of September even that area of GC will be in great shape with beach areas cleaned up from any storm debris. Who knows what might happen between now and then! Looks like Ike, thankfully, not going to be a problem for the Caymans though:)

Doing a trip to anywhere in the Caribbean in Sept./October is a gamble. Have been there with storms in the vicinity and gone thru some impact, but thankfully never anything catastophic. Grand Cayman government and people are extremely adept at dealing with potential problems, so don't over-worry! NO human can control weather events or predict them more than a few days out at best. The upside is with hurricanes we now have decent warning and can prepare...unlike earthquakes or tornados:)

Saw some pictures on the web - looked like their sign was blown around somewhat and some debris on the beach, etc. but not much of anything that can't be cleaned up pretty quick. It's probably already back in order.

The pictures are at stormcarib.com/reports/current/cayman.shtml

or goto stormcarib.com then click on Cayman Islands on the right.

The first pictures and info you come to are of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Scroll down to the post titled "East end/North side" for pix and info on East End of GC.

thanks for the comments.

the morrits website seems pretty good on updating and letting peopel know whats going on. that sounds good. Hope no other major hurricanes tear up the resort in the next 2 weeks haha.

Ya we understand the gamble on Carribean trips around this time. We always do something in the beginning of the year and end of the year somewhere in this area. Its just one of those things we take a chance on.

Sounds like it is a somewhat unusual year for hurricanes and Tropical Storms. The other day, when Gustav was still in the Gulf and there were 3 in the Atlantic, read on one of the weather sites that the last time there were 4 TS/hurricanes at one time was in 1998 or 1999. They said it's a fairly rare occurrance.

Refers to US but....

"The U.S. is getting pummeled this hurricane season

With hurricane season less than half over, it's clear that the U.S. is taking an unusually harsh beating this year. Already, we've had two Category 2 hurricanes (Dolly and Gustav), two strong tropical storms (Edouard and Fay), and now a third strong tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane (Hanna). Hanna is the fifth consecutive named storm to hit the U.S., tying a record. The other years this happened (kudos to NOAA's Ryan Sharp for compiling this):

2004 (Frances, Gaston, Hermine, Ivan, and Jeanne)

2002 (Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, and Isidore)

1985 (Gloria, Henri, Isabel, Juan, and Kate)

1979 (Bob, Claudette, David, Elena, and Frederic)

1971 (Doria, Edith, Fern, Ginger, Heidi)

There's good chance that Ike will make it six consecutive strikes."
