I have read many posts in this forum as well as other web sites describing snorkeling beaches. One of our primary activities on vacation is snorkeling (shore snorkeling not always having to go out on a boat). We do make a trip to St. John once a year for guaranteed excellent snorkeling regardless of the conditions. However, we always want to make one trip to someplace diffferent. From all I read about St. Martin, I know we will enjoy exploring this island and will probably stay at Oyster Bay Beach Resort. However, I keep reading contradictory information. I know that snorkeling conditions can vary day by day, but don't want to set myself up for always poor conditions. For example, I keep reading that Dawn Beach has good snorkeling but then read that there's plenty of wave action for surfers and windsurfers. That seems contradictory to me. If anyone has any first-hand experience snorkeling directly off any beaches, I would appreciate the info.

We tried to snorkel at Dawn but was very rough the day we were there so could not. We did snorkel at Pinel Island. Very calm there and saw quite a few fish.

shore snorkeling is not the best on SXM. the best snorkeling is off shore like at Creole Rock,

if he sea is not rough, the snorkeling at Oyster Bay beach ( Dawn beach) can be ok.

there is also snorkeling at Pinel.. it is an island that is a 5 minute boat ride away.

also there is some snorkeling at Divi Little Bay..
