We are planning our honeymoon to Caribbean (November), including 7-day cruise followed by 5 nights in Vieques to relax and enjoy nature, beaches and nice food.

What B&B would you recommend for us?

I've read several posts here and reviews in TripAdv. but all reviewed places (like BBH, Inn on the blue horizon, Tradewinds, Casa Lanchita, Hacienda) seem to have some negative posts and/or things we'd like to get more info on. Following criteria would be important for us:

- Clean rooms with shower

- A/C

- Within walking distance from (at least some of) restaurants

- If not close to swimming beach, pool would be great

- 100-150 $ per night

- Room with terrace/patio is a bonus

We appreciate your advice! Thanks in advance all of you!

Can't wait to see the island and warmth of Caribbean after reading all the descriptions of it... we're coming from the other side of the world, a bit colder place

Cheers!

I would recommend Hector's by the Sea. It is really comfortable and lovely. Located on a beach, but not a swimming beach--the best swimming beaches have no lodging which is what makes them so special! Hector's does have a nice pool and hot tub. You can walk to the restaurant at Inn on the Blue Horizon--otherwise just a minute's drive from Esperanza and all the restaurants there. Read the reviews of Hectors--they are all great. We stayed there last December and loved it!

Hectors is not a B&B, but does meet some of your other requirements.

Hacienda Tamarindo is a True bed and Breakfast and does a very good breakfast. You can walk to the Inn and its very close to Esperanza. You can get a room within your budget until Thanksgiving and they have a nice pool,

The Inn only has one room in your Budget and of course it is the one room that isn't very desirable.

La Lanchita can be very pleasant, but again you have to make your own breakfast, the suites all have kitchens. View are fantastic as is the pool.

BBH does a breakfast for guests and the restaurants is among the best on Island, they also have a lively bar at the palms (not wild just lively) and two nice pools.

Rooms are not as fancy as the hype but pleasant enough and just feet from the sea.

I would stay at any of them. You have to read between the lines of bad reviews. Sometimes it is the guest just expecting something the island just doesn't offer or having a bade day.

Thanks for the comment.

What is the location of Hector's by the Sea? By the way, does someone have a map where B&Bs would be marked 'cos I have not found one?

It sure looks and sounds good, but it would be nice to have lodging situated in such a way that you could walk (<1 mile) to restaurants in the night to enjoy dinner and some drinks and walk back (and not drink and drive). I know car rental is a must to explore the beaches, but evenings would be nicer for a walk.

I've been looking at Casa La Lanchita, Hacienda and At the waves. Are they within walking distance from some restaurants and what are your experience in these places? Is breakfast included in all of them?

I have been doing a bunch of research as well plus heard from friends who know the island. Check out Casa Ladera and Evamer as well. We might be staying at Evamer in August and can tell you afterwards how it was. Both got great reviews on trip advisor.

Thanks Siren and Macjevy for your replys!

Lanchita and Hector's are off the selection with no breakfast. Hacienda sounds great, they obviously have car rental also in-house(?), good reviews, high-level service and breakfast...

I'm just puzzling with the geography - whereabouts is it located? Close to Esperanza... how far?

And do all rooms have views on the sea or should we ask for Deluxe room right away with terrace?

Hello pepesone!

Hacienda Tamarindo is an excellent choice(small hotel w a great breakfast)for what you are looking for and it is very close to a few good restaurants located in Esperanza fishing village on the southern part of the Island. You can call them for a more precise info. (787)741-8525 Ask for Jim at the front desk office (he is the Prime Minister in charge and destination expert for Vieques Island) and Iam sure he will be very pleased to answer you any questions related to Vieques and Hacienda Tamarindo.

Good Luck!

Humberto

Thanks Humberto for that number!

I still checked Flamboyan, which was a bit cheaper and a new place. But I guess it might be a bit more in the 'hectic area' of Vieques and as firstly we seek for peace and relaxation, Hacienda sounds better. And we can always stroll down to Esperanza quite easily, I suppose.

My only issue now concerns peoples' experiences about the rooms they offer. There is just the two of us, but as the Suite and Caribbean Deluxe are close in price, which one you would recommend and why?

Go for the nicest room you can afford. Others have posted that sitting on there balconies just enjoying the view(maybe with a cocktail) is a one of the real joys of their trips.

Stay at Hacienda Tamarindo and you will not be disappointed. I just got back from a 3 night stay and it is a truly amazing location. I too was concerned about driving after drinks...but not to worry. Just don't get sloppy drunk and you'll be fine. Hacienda Tamarindo is a 4 minute drive from Esperanza.

Thanks for the advice, but I do not want to drive at all when drunk. Of course one or two beers can still be ok, but no more. But many have said that Hacienda is within a walk from Esperanza? But does this meen 1km or 5km?

I would appreciate also some room experiences? Should I ask a view towards the pool?

Cheers!

-Pekka
