Less than 3 weeks until we arrive in PR - feeling very excited. Would love to hear some suggestions on places to eat while we are there. Arriving on Monday the 28th in morning and leaving Thursday early am. Me, wife and two kids. Only things we have reserved is Bio bay tour with Island Adventures on Tues after 7 and dinner at El Quenpo on Wed. Looking for lunch and dinner suggestions. We don't mind sophisticated as long as kids can find something like a paata with butter! Vibe and ambiance important as well. Based on previous trip reveiws ffrom this site the following resto's are on the radar.Not exactly sure which are open when. Hope to hear from those who have been. Thanks! Tradewinds (seems good for lunch or dinner); Blue Macaw; Uva; Coqui Fire (tues night?); Peters; Chez Shack (open?); Duffys (lunch). |
Hi Tree. A few updates for you. Blue Macaw is closed permanently. Uva is closed and due to re-open under a different name and Chef soon. The former Chef of Uva is now at El Patio providing a reasonable priced dinner menu. Chez Shack opens and closes at the whim of the owner. Taverna is now open and serving light lunch and a decent Italian style dinner. The kids will like the Pasta Carbonara. As happens at this time of year, restaurants may or may not adhere to posted schedules. When you get on Island call ahead to be sure. "Vibe and Ambiance" are subjective terms. I'll leave others to describe them.

I noticed Charly Burgers was set up again yesterday, in Esperanza. Belly buttons is also good for lunch. Barefoot Bestro, is excellent Thursday-Sunday across from the Bravo Beach Hotel. Try BBH for dinner also,the food and the setting are excellent. Scoops makes good Pizza, Calzones great Steak sandwiches etc. The best part is they have Menus at Als Mar Azul, where you can sit on the deck enjoy the Awesome view and Scoops will deliver (their own premises are kind of dismal) The Viequense in Isabel across from Roys has wonderful sandwiches. In Puerto Rico all sandwiches are put in a grill press, lettuce and all.Hot and delicious if you are eating there. If you are taking them to the beach you might ask them to skip the grilling.

Thanks VQSJIM and Viequessiren once again for your feedback and tips. You both have helped tremendously in planning this trip. Glad to know that some of the resto's on the list are closed as can focus on those that are open including those you have suggested. I had not heard about the Taverna before so Googled it - is it "Taverna Espanola"? I also realize that I had read good things about The Inn on the Blue Horizon - should we consider with the kids? Also realize I should have asked for breakfast suggestions as well once I was at it!

Belly button is also good for breakfast. The locals eat ham and cheese sandwiches for breakfast and those are available at the local bakeries, the larger bakery in Isabel will add an egg, I'm not sure about the bakery in Esperanza. Roys in Isabel across from the Viequense offers some baked goods and Bagels and starbucks type coffee drinks plus free wireless.
From my most recent visit (week of June 21st) Roy's requires a purchase before getting wireless (for an hour) - so not entirely free... Oh well - good thing I didn't need any longer than that anyway.
That seems fare. | ||||||
Agreed! Just wanted to clarify that it's no longer free. A good cup of coffee (which I usually get anywy) while responding to email is fine with me. As far as I know there is no place offering free internet on the island any more.
Speaking of internet - is there anywhere on the island where I could have access to internet and be able to print something from on-line? I would like to check in on line for our return flight home on AA and print boarding passes before. Thanks-
Black Beards in Isabel and the Historical Trust in Esperanza both have PCs with printing capability and for a minimal cost.
Dear Tree; In the event you are not sucessful with printing your boarding passes on the island, the AA at SJU terminal has very simple to use freestanding kisoks to print your boarding passes. They use a touch screen that even I could figure out. Start to finish in less than sixty seconds. Best wishes. regards, Jack
