Hello... I am planning a trip this summer and I dont plan on renting a car - but would like to get some food at Amigos grocery/WalGreens and Richie's Restaurant. Can anyone tell me about how much it costs to get from the resort to one of these places? And is it hard to get a cab to pick you up from the store to take you back to the resort? Thanks so much!! |

Where will you be staying ?

Agree. There are many of them.

I think you'd be better off renting a car. Taxis in Puerto Rico are not that cheap...example: from Isla Verde area, a taxi will cost you $20 to Old San Juan each way ($40 round trip). You could rent a car for probably less than that.

I will be staying at the Wyndham Rio Mar. I heard that there is a nearby grocery and a few local restaurants - thanks!

We've stayed several times at the Rio Mar and although the stores you mention are nearby I think it would be expensive to try to deal with that in a taxi. I would think you would have to ask the driver to wait while you shop. Unless you really don't drive don't be worried about renting a car and driving in this area. It is no different than driving anywhere in the U.S. There is an on-site Avis car rental desk in the Rio Mar lobby if you only want the car for a few hours or a few days. We ended up picking up an Avis car at the airport and then just dropping the car off at the hotel (to save parking charges). Stopped at the Amigo store on the way in to pick up some provisions. Then re-rented the car after our convention was over to drive to the rain forest and then back to the airport the following day. This way we only had to pay one night of parking (self park is $15). Otherwise if you really don't want to rent a car I would recommend calling the hotel concierge in advance to find out more information about taxi availabiltiy at the hotel and how much the fares will be to do what you want.
