I'm wanting to try the lechoneras of Cayey area on the Ruta between San Juan and Ponce, I'll be in that area around 1pm on a Sunday (probably March 25). Last trip, I ended up in Old San Juan on Sunday afternoon and don't want a repeat of getting stuck in traffic up to the gills soon after landing. Am I going to be able to drive through this area without much hassle or is the traffic insane enough to either come in earlier or later or another day altogether? Any recs on a favorite lechonera?

You wont have much trouble with traffic... it might get a bit heavier in places like the actual Guavate area or places with restaurants and churches or places like that from all the families that hit the road on sundays to spend the day together... but i doubt it will ruin your trip, not like getting in to old san juan.

all of the lechoneras are awesome!

ive been to a few and i honestly dont have A favorite...

Los Pinos is a good one. On Sundays you won't have any problems with traffic jams.

Since there is only 1 road into and out of Guavate, it does back up, but when you get tired of the traffic- stop at the next restaurant with live music and have a ball!
