Best San Juan neighborhood district for solo female... |
|
I am planning a weekend getaway to San Juan from August 19-23. I will be traveling alone and would like input as to which of the major neighborhoods/districts(Old San Juan, Miramar, Conadado, Isla Verde) might be suitable for a solo traveler. Also, any additional recommendations with regards to hotels that are suitable for single/solo travelers would be greatly appreciated. |
|
Stay either in Condado or Isla Verde. Isla Verde might be the best choice because a part of Condado is under construction at this moment.

I agree with CuchiCuchi. Isla Verde is probably best. The El San Juan and the Intercontinental are next door to each other, so there is a good expanse of very secure beachfront. Isla Verde Avenue is pleasant and active although I haven't notice a lot of upscale shops. The lobby at the El San Juan is an excellent place for a single traveler to hang out, take in a little local culture and enjoy the music and nightlife, without feeling the least bit conspicuous. There are plenty of reataurants of all levels, most have bars, which is where I prefer to eat when traveling alone.

You could stay at the El San Juan hotel in Isla Verde and then take a taxi one day to visit Condado (You will find nice shops there) and Old San Juan. Also if you have the chance visit the Water Club hotel to have a drink, Dragonfly to eat and Kudeta to party. Other Places: N lounge, Blend, Mangos Cafe, Dumbars, and at the San Sebastian street in Old San Juan visit Baru.

stay in Condado, Ocean Park or Old San juan.

Chitown68, Old San Juan has many activities and restaurants for a solo traveler and plenty of police officers at all times. Visit the following site for a list of hotels. Click on San Juan on the map and you will find hotels for different budgets. http://www.puertoricoisfun.com/index2.php You might want to consider a guided morning walking tour with a professional guide, so he or she can give you more tips and help you plan your activities after the tour. Type "old san juan tour" in www.google.com search engine for tour companies or independent guides. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company also has do alone tour at www.gotopuertorico.com/go_cultureHistory.php… Wishing you fun in Puerto Rico.

Thanks to all of you who have responded. After reading the posts and doing some reasearch, I have decided to look at hotels in Condado and Old San Juan. I am leaning more towards Condado because it is beteween Old San Juan and Isla Verde. I understand that part of Condado will be under construction when I am down there. I guess I will have to pack some earplugs. :)
