I am going to Jamaica in early August and I will be staying at a resort in Negril. However, I would absolutely love to hike up the blue mountain and I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to how to go about doing this. I found some websites that offer hiking tours from Kingston, but I'm not sure what the best way of getting there is. Any tips?

Hello mOnkeygirl,

This will be fun but not practical.

The base of the blue mountains is about a 5 hour drive from Negril.

You spend the night and start the uphill trek at about 2AM. Get to the top at about 5:30 am. If it is a clear day the fine you will see the most panoramic views. August is not good for having clear days. These happen during the months from Novemebr to February.

Start the downhill decent and get back to the base at about 11:00am. Then you will have to recouperate and head back to Negril. Another 5 hours in the car.

I would go to Treasure beach and hike up the Malvern mountains to Lovers Leap or further onto Monroe College. Fantastic panoramic views of the south coast along the way.

Have fun!
