Going to RDCC 9 October with my wife.First time in Jamaica.

Have read ALL the forums on RDCC and most of my questions have been answered.

Should a recent hip-replacementee go to Dunns Falls?

I've got dodgy 61 year old ankles, and my wife (Lesley) is the one with the hip replacement!

Look foward to making advance contact with any Brits going out there.

To be quite honest if I were you I wouldn't go up the falls. I am quite fit and I climbed the falls 8 years ago but would not do it again. Try going down the river (either Rio Grande or Martha Brae) on a bamboo raft instead that is a nice trip. Also the trip to Sun Valley Plantation and Firefly (Noel Cowards house) is good. Have a lovely time.

Don't go to Dunns! We are a young, fit, active family but found the climb extremely hard in places. The rocks are very slippery and we saw someone from another party fall and she was swept down some 20 feet banging from one slippery rock to another. I would not recommend it! Yes it is beautiful and it is fantastic to think you did it but not worth being injured!

Hi Hairy,

I agree with 'Bubble', I think the climb at the falls might be just a tad too much to risk. However You can still visit and enjoy the beauty. If you arrive by boat you can actually walk all the way up beside the falls via a winding pathway, it is quite steep but you can of course take it at your own pace and turn back when you've had enough. Alternatively you can be dropped at the top by coach or cab and do the walk in reverse although personally I think the former is easier if you tire. We also had a member of our party fall and although we all tried to catch him, he still managed to sustain a couple of nasty scrapes and almost took someone else with him.

Just because you may not be able to climb the falls themselves is no reason to miss them, they are definitely worth a look. Hope you enjoy.

Regards Jill.

The YS Falls are a good alternative.

You dont actually walk up the falls themselves but a gradual rising set of sets to one side. There is also a fresh water spring at the bottom to swim or paddle in. The fauna and humming birds in this area are a bonus too.

Have a great holiday hairymick.

Dunns falls would be too much for you ad the rocks are slippery. You can still go and see them for yourselfs and walk along the path which runs along side the falls. Now YS falls as mentioned would be fine. I actually prefer these falls..It is a pathway you walk up and down. you can go in the water at certain points. Lower part will prob be better for you. To get to YS falls it will take about 3 and haalf hrs with private driver to get you there. if you book through the hotel it will be 4hrs plus.

If you do go here you could also incorporate the appleton rum factory, pelican bar or black river tour. The hotel where i stayed did the 3 in one day but it was too much to do it this way with the hotel.. you dont get enough time at YS falls.. I would only do the 3 if i went with a driver.

Firfly has been mentioned also and this is a fab place and has fantastic views of ocho rios

Have a great time

RDCC is a good choice and the runaway bay area is close to lots to see not far from there
