Hi Everyone,

A friend and I have just recently booked a trip to the Royal Decameron in Runaway Bay for May. I've done some checking online for things to do while there and I'm not finding many. If anyone has any information on must see's in Runaway Bay or where I can find some I would greatly appreciate it.

Danny

Hi Danny... First of all I see that you are a fellow canadian! Great, what part of town are you from? Down to your question... First I would like to say that if you can, ask your travel agent which royal decameron you are bookded for. The reason I say this is that there is a new one in Montego bay and there have been some mix-ups with people getting sent there when they thought that they were going to runaway. If you are going to the one in runaway bay, see if you can have it changed to the one in Montego Bay... Trust me, I was just there and it was great! And we had some people that had been sent to runaway bay when they weren't supposed to go there and they said that montego bay edition was WAY BETTER. In montego Bay there's a bunch of things you can do. Take a tour to negril for the day, go down the street to Margaritaville, go snorkeling even just twenty feet out from the beach. it's really nice and the staff are just perfect! Have fun. By the way, when are you going in may?

Hello Danny,

Majik has just made a very valid point. Double check your final location destination. There is a most interesting thread on this same subject by selectivedi. On this same page. It is well worth reading.

Point 1. If the destination is Runaway Bay, I will give you a long list of all the things to do in the area.

Point 2. If Montego Bay, a list is on the thread just mentioned.

Point 3. You willl be in Jamaica which is the most important factor. All the rest is mere geography. The real gems of Jamaica are its people and these are the ones that will make sure that you have the best vacation. ENJOY!

Would appreciate it if you'd post that list of activities for Runaway Bay. I'll be there in 6 days!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for all the replies. First to answer a couple of questions I am from P.E.I. Canada, I will be there the 2nd until the 8th of May and I have checked and it is Runaway Bay. So any information on what to do while there would be great. We'd prefere to experience Jamaica from outside the resort as well as on the resort.

Thanks again,

Danny

My husband and I were in Runaway Bay over Christmas. First the Royal Decameron is an older resort. The public areas are nice but if you are in a garden cottage, they are older and in need of some updating. If there are 2 of you, the first one taking a shower better be quick or the second person will have a cold shower. Getting towels and washclothes seemed to be a problem. Also if you like to take long walks on the beach, you will be disappointed...you can only walk in front of the resort, there are fences at each end. There are some really neat things to do in Jamaica...the Blue Mountain Bicycle Tour was excellent and also climbling the Dunn's River Falls. Green Grotto Caves were very interesting. Check out www.visitjamaica.com On our 7th day we upgraded to the Montego Bay resort...the rooms were much better, but the beach was again limited to in front of the resort, but the water was crystal clear and the snorkling was great (and you didn't have to go out very far).

Isn't the beach public? We are going in a couple of weeks. Pleade let us know. I figured we could walk the beach like you do in Mexico?

Thanks, I found the list. Can anyone tell me anything about J Swaby's Safari? I haven't been able to find anything about it.
