I had my mind made up and called to talk to a travel agent about it and he said he would not reccomend BRB~he said the RIU Ocho Rios is far better

Yet I tend to trust this site more and all of the reviews. I dont think it is #1 and RIU is #4 for no reason?????

Oh my I would NOT let your TA do that. It's your trip. The reviews speak for themselves....Breezes Run Away Bay is #1 for a good reason! A coworker of my husband spent a week at BRB in May and absolutely loved it. They are already booked to go back! I bet your travel agent gets a bigger commission from RIU than they do from Breezes! If the travel agent is stubborn about this, maybe it's time to find a different one!

Thanks Teresa, I knew that just needed to hear it from someone else. He said the rooms are old and tv's are bolted down, and the food was not good. I am going to rethink our decision

I agree with the last poster .I get so much from this site .Yes the travel agent knows what she has been told about the resorts and may even have possibly has gone on what travel agents call"Fam Trips " to get to know an area. But the many many reviews on here give you a chance to read and decide what would make your trip what you want it to be.

I would go with what you want not what she suggests.Ask her her reasons for suggesting this resort over others and add that to what you have already learned through TA and make your final decision.

Happy Travels

What do you think is important and what does your TA think is important? I'm guessing the 'frosting on the cake' has impressed your TA since the RIU is newer. BRB has recently gone through a complete reno and has had many updates. I was there twice before the reno and loved the place for the staff, the atmosphere, the food! and drinks, the beach and watersports. RIU is a family resort and BRB allows teens, but you wont find many there. No question in my mind BRB is far better.

Uh, the TVs are bolted...to the wall since they have added plasma TVs in every room since the renovations over a year ago.

The food is great with everything from Jamaican and Japanese to Italian and Stirfry along with large buffets.

I'd get rid of that TA immediately, since they obviously don't know what's going on.

And the beach is 10 times better at BRB!

Enjoy!

MKA~ that is hilarious about the plasmas literally being bolted to the wall! I knew I was right, this is definatly the place for us. The food sounds just like what we would want.

One thing my husband's friend really raved about was the food and drink at BRB. He and his wife both said it was excellent and there was a lot of seafood, even though lobster was out of season at the time, they made up for it with shrimp and other seafood dishes. The rooms were clean and fresh, the employees were very friendly and he said they had an LCD TV(I think he said it was an LCD) on the wall in their room, and they were not in a fancy suite, either! There were lots of activities when they wanted them, and they had solitude when they wanted that too. They can't wait to go back in Jan 2009.

Remember this is YOUR holiday - do not allow any Travel Agent dictate where you should spend your hard earned money.

If you have made your mind up - then go for it and enjoy yourself.

Okay, the first time we went there, it was in dire need of updating, but still loads of fun (that was 2 years ago, we went for our friends' wedding, recommended wedding destination by a travel agent). We are returning for our 3rd visit next Monday. While we love Cancun, we always tell everyone that Breezes Runaway Bay is the most fun place we have ever visited. Get a new travel agent! They obviously have not visited since the $20 million reno. There are now more restaurants, a new infinity pool, a swim up bar, and beautiful rooms with great showers (5 shower heads). The daily activities can't be beat and all the free water activites, you don't get much free in Cancun. I'd say go for it, you won't ge sorry!
