Hello

Please will somebody tell me how much I can expect to pay for taxi transfers from Vernon Sangster airport to Runaway Bay . Also would it be a good idea to use shuttle buses ?

Thanks in anticipation

Melynda .

if you use private driver than it will cost around JMD 3000 one way. private drivers are really handy as once you get to know them and you can rely on them they can get you around easily, will tell you a lot about their culture and very often you get to places you might not see if using big tour operators. i have a very close friend who does taxi airport runs and any tours you like. his name is ian and his number is (+876) 407 1387. he is a funny guy, musician, always got good music going and can get you to good evenings out with locals...

if you are staying at a bigger place then yes very likely included. if you are staying in a guest house then no not necessarily included. most guest houses have drivers though which offer to pick you up but you normally have to pay them. we stayed in salem one of the staff from the guest house picked us up and it cost us 80 dollar one way. get one of the private drivers and you get it normally cheaper. my sister has gone back with ian to the airport and it cost her JMD 3000. and i know ian so i know his prices too. if you are a adventure traveller who goes to several places then a private driver is definitelly good. or for shorter distances then use the route taxis. if you want more of an organised trip then use private driver or juta taxis.

route taxis are brilliant for short trips from runaway bay to ocho rios or discovery bay (lovely beach) longer trips or more of a sightseeing then use a private driver. they are very reliable and will give you more of a feel of jamaica.

we always use a private driver even though the shuttle included. You get to your hotel quicker and still have time to stop and have a drink if you want and arrive before everyone else. Just prefer this way than hanging around for an hour for bus to fill up and drop others off before you reach your hotel, adding extra hrs to your already long journey to get to jamacia.

The private driver we use tells you lots about the island, makes the journey go real quick, has a comfy bus and great air con..

For prices you wil have to call moodie to get a quote or text him.. He is a great guy. also use him to take us everywhere on the island that we want to visit.

Hos no if you want to contact him is 876 4046396

just to add that if you booked the trip as "all inclusive (including air and transfers" then the shuttle is included... not many hotels (save sandles and their chain) offer shuttles for their properties alone... it's operated by the tour operator (thompson tours or whatever)...

and the airport is just sangster.. no Vernon... not sure which Sangster it was named over (Donald I think, he was the prime minister at one point in time), but it is a long time well known Jamaican name that has been involved in politics and business and ect for years on years now...

The highlight of our trip by far was the guide that we used. We used Wentworth Tours (http://www.wentworthtours.com/) email (went1@cwjamaica.com) and Mr. Pearson was absolutely fantastic. He picked us up at the airport and took us on tours, shopping and site-seeing. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He literally saved us $100's by combining tours for us and watching out for us. He was our advocate during the whole trip and really took excellent care of us. He knew where to find bargains and would take us to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted. He took us to Dunn River Falls, Luminous Lagoon, tubing, shopping and dining. He would negotiate discounts for us and was always making sure that things were on the up and up. His prices were incredible for the service he delivered; he is certified by JUTA and has a background in tourist industry. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a driver or personal tour guide, he will pick you up at your hotel and he also picks up cruise ship passengers

I used Moodie two weeks ago at TAZ's suggestion (above) and he was great.
