I'm planning a trip to Negril the end of March, and keep hearing things about Dunn Rivers Falls. How long is this trip from Negril? Are there better ways than others to get there? Cost??

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I made the trip from Negril to Ocho Rios/Dunn river falls about three years ago. I am going back in a week and a half and after having done it, would recommend not doing it to you unless you take a flight to get there. The road trip sucked, although you stop for a break in Montego and take a river raft ride on the way, Dunns river falls was not that cool and was very touristy. Our driver kept hurrying us along all day long and the falls themselves, while very cool, are somewhat manmade these days. The proprieters have been adding concrete sacs to the falls for some time to keep it "falling." Would recommend Mayfield or YS as well.

Hi Gundo13,

Go to Mayfield Falls. The drive and the falls were both beautiful. My husband and I both thought Mayfield blew Dunn's river away! We went through Soloman and Talk of the Town Tours. We highly recommend him!

Mayfield (through Soloman) cost us $104 and the drive was about 1 1/2 hours. If you go make sure you bring an underwater camera and your digital. The guides were GREAT at keeping your camera dry. If you have a video camera, bring that too. I wish I would have brought mine. The views from the drive are breathtaking.

The YS Falls are great as well and are not far from Negril. Included in the excursion is a boat tour of the Black River where you will see alligators! It was great.

Lunch was also included in our tour the cost was $75US pp.

Ask your resort for the details and they can set you up

OK: We had a rented car in Negril, we had one of the locals drive us with our car to Dunns River Falls. It took some 2.5 hours to get there. I had a Cannon camera. The guide taking us up to falls took it so it would not get wet. Sorrrrry--camera was wet and did not work, could not be fixed. If you are in MO Bay, then go, if you are in OR then go, but to waste a entire day in the car and on the road, when you could be on the beach and in the water--sorry. If you go in that area, then go to the DRF, otherwise it is a very long trip and a real waste of time and gas. John R.
