Travelling to Jamaica for the first time and recommended to stay on seven mile beach. Not lots of choices for packages out of Winnipeg so I have been searching other options and found the Travellers Resort.

Our group is three couples and we have only done the all-inclusive vacations before in Mexico. The only AI's offered out of Winnipeg are huge resorts and we like to stay somewhere smaller.

Any help you can offer about the Travellers Resort, ie, location on the beach, food etc would be appreciated.

Travel plans are for January 2009.

Travellers's is 'ok' but not one of the better resorts. It is located at the end very close to the town centre, or approx. 1/2 km away and there are another 10km +/- of beach beyond it.

There are easily 50 other non-AI and smaller AI resorts on the beach to choose from. Many people book air & hotel separately for this reason.

Have a look at negrilinfo.com, make sure you check the Negril Map, and also look at negrilonestop.com. They are Toronto based and know Negril very well. I'm sure you can find something better.

good good to hear folks trying non-AI. if you still would like to stay AI, check out grand pineapple (formly known as negril gardens) in the middle of the beach, small AI at a good price. i know you'd like it. i've stayed at travellers 3 times. once twice in the cottages, which i love and once in the standard rooms. they have a great restaurant and pool if you need a pool, but why, such beautiful sea within steps. another small AI would be the merrills 1, 2, and 3. you said that you don't have alot offered to you in winnepeg, go to the hotels websites and book with them and do your air seperate, or better yet, give 'em a call. go to www.negril.com board and search around on that board for ideas, photos

LoveHuatulco,

Hi I have never stayed at Travelors but I've stayed at Shields which is right next to it many times. I've been on Travelor's property a few times. It is located towards the end of the 7 mile beach heading towards downtown. Bourbon Beach is the nearby club for music and dancing. It is a smaller moderate hotel. It looks decent. Two other properties you might also consider in the same area would be Negril Beach Club Condoes or Shields Hotel.

We stayed at Traveller's in late Aprila nd early May of this year and enjoyed it a lot.

I have never done an A/I in Negril, so I can't compare it to an A/I, but I can compare it to other small beach properties. The rooms are clean and basic. The beds are comfortable, the water presure in the showers is good, the grounds are beatiful and well kept. The food is good and the price is right. The staff is very friendly, and the pool is wonderful. The beach is small compared to some others, and you need to bring your own beach towels. Travellers is at the end of the beach closest to town, and there are many places to enjoy local food that are close by. Security was never a concern for us. We felt safe there.

While I haven't personally stayed at Travellers and Shields, I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night..

okay, just kidding..couldn't resist. In all seriousness, I have been to Negril three times, and have to say that while I haven't stayed at either Travellers or Shields, I have spend some really neat days just hanging out there, ordering drinks and sometimes lunches. While it is on the end closer to downtown, I found the staff friendly, the drinks and food decent, and the pools really nice...and it is nice to have a pool to swim in even though you are right on the beach. Shields even has an outdoor shower so you can wash the salt from the sea off before hopping in their pool, which does include a swim up bar..and I really liked sitting on a swim up barstool and still being able to catch a nice view of the beach and sea. And Travellers has a very nice pool with a lovely mural and even a waterfall in it..and a jacuzzi right next to it too. I like the pools to swim in at night, since I just don't feel all that comfortable in the sea at night. ;)

A friend stayed at Travelers when we stayed two doors down and I really liked it. He had a cabin...clean and comfortable. A second friend had a deluxe room - marble tile floors, AC, comfy, clean.

The grounds are MUCH nicer than they were several years ago, they did a lot of landscaping work. The swim up pool bar is a lovely addition. The location is good for walking the beach or into town.

It's not fancy but I like it.
