we went to Aruba in 2006 and we cleared US customs in Aruba so when we got to Charlotte, NC we just went to our next gate to catch the next flight...is it the same in Jamaica? I am flying on Delta thru ATL - they changed our reservations and we have about one hour between flights on the way back, I was concerned this might not be enough time to clear customs unless we clear customs in JA. Thx in advance!

You will clear Customs in Atlanta. One hour is going to be very tight. By the time you go through immigration, get your luggage from the belt and go through Customs, one hour may not be enough. I hate to say. Good luck!

If your return flight is from Montego Bay, you will need to clear U.S. Immigration as well as Customs in Atlanta, and indeed, the one hour time between flights may be insufficient, especially during certain times of day at this airport! We suggest that you call and remind Delta that you are connecting from an international arrival! Perhaps there are other flight options they can offer you without an up-charge!

There are no US C&I in jamaica. You will need to clear C&I when you arrive back on US soil. You will clear C&I at your first stop. Also, you will need to claim your bags, clear C&I, then re-check your bags. Your bags will be tagged through ATL. Get your bags, clear C&I, the go to the recheck desk to sedn the bags to CHR.

Wow I never would have thought to ask that so I'm glad you did. Now I'm worried though because I have about an hour and a half connection in ATL in December. I am flying US Airways but I assume all airlines are the same. Will this extra half an hour help or should I look at the possibility of a longer layover as well?

If a longer layover was available, I would take it. An hour and a half between flights for me is still cutting it close.

Your layover time is fine.

The C&I lines move quickly, and the bag recheck is right there at the end of C&I, so your layover time should be more than sufficiant.

Well I called Delta and immediately the rep said the flight they rebooked us on must be changed because there must be a min of 90 minutes layover in ATL from MBJ. So I ask, "well why did your system rebook us on something that is not even allowed?" to which I received no answer. :-) So now we are booked on a flight to PIT w/ about a 3.5 hr layover in ATL which may be a little long but I guess is better than being too short and then missing the connection. Thanks everyone for your responses and confirming my thoughts!

Glad DELTA was able to re-book you! And there's alot to do in the terminal to help the time pass! Relax now and get yourself psyched for a great trip to Jamaica!
