Has anyone booked accomodations using the Skyauction site? I am planning my next trip to JA,and of course am trying to go the cheap route. I have done the big all inclusive resorts, and the smaller local resorts the sunset grande and the sandcastles... I am now considering rooms on the beach. I previously used Marzouca's for my accomodations to Sandcastles, which was fine, other than the fact the shower was tiny. I guess i would just like suggestions about places to stay or booking accomodations cheaply from some more frequent travelers to JA.

I booked a couple of nights using skyauction recently. I haven't taken the trip yet but I have a voucher for the hotel, I will be checking it with the hotel before I go :)

One thing i can say is read the fine print VERY carefully. I thought I did and it was still $75 more per night than I thought. Still a good deal but not quite the deal I thought it was.

I have booked several times through skyauctions both for Rooms as well as Club Ambiance. Like Liz said, read the fine print....Rooms is an automatic $32 per night before you even start bidding and depending on when you are booking your trip, there may also be a seasonal surcharge, so you just have to be careful when maximizing your bid. I have paid anywhere from $50 to $70 per night, still a good deal IMO.

With Club Ambiance, you have to remember that you are bidding per person and not per room, but you can also get a very decent rate for that hotel also.

Keep in mind that for Rooms, the $32 is per room not per person...and the bid is per room not person, so you can have up to two people in your room for the winning bid plus your $32....you can catch a really good deal ...I usually max my bid out at $30...if i win great, if not thats ok too...I start plenty early befor my trip and jus keep trying.. :-)

We've used them a couple of times. But, I sure wouldn't start bidding unless I already knew what a good price was. The fine print is crucial to not overlook. Also, if it's air-inclusive, there's an extra fee for most airports. The "included" price is usually somewhere like Miami - for the rest of us there is an add-on fee.

The time of year can also affect the price.

When I'm bidding, I know what I can buy the vacation for, therefore I set up auto bidding up to the maximum amount I want to pay.
