help-need advice asap for a fun sandals property in jamaica |
|
Hi everyone I need your advice: my husband and I are planning a last minute trip to Jamaica in a month or two. We have decided on sandals but not sure of the resort. Our top three are Whitehouse, Dunn River and Negril. We are open to other suggestions. We want place with a decent amount of dining options and lively bars. and recently updated. Also looking for a place with a fun party like atmosphere in the evening. We don't want to have the airplanes flying overhead or cruise ships invading the beach. PLEASE!!!! I need any and all advice Thanks so much! Donna

I'd say go to Negril... if you get bored on site you have plenty of options up and down the beach, a short cab ride away... Chelle

I have been to Whitehouse twice. It's amazing! It is there newest resort. They have lots of dinning options and the food is GREAT, 3 main pools, the main pool has most of the fun and games, which is huge, the French pool has volley ball, the Dutch is more for relaxing. The beach is laid out perfect so everyone gets a good view of the ocean. Staff is very friendly. As far as night goes, they have shows, piano bars, talent contests. Or just go for a long romantic stroll down the beach, Your up all day so the night is pretty tuff.Get some drinks to go & go for some night swiming. Have fun!

I agree with Dawn as SWH (been twice and returning again in Feb. '09) is an amazing resort. Initially, I would have also recommended Sandals Montego Bay, but you specifically noted the airplanes so NG on that.

I agree with the previous posters. If Whitehouse is too spendy for you though, give Dunn's River a try. They completely renovated that property and re-opened it in Feb., 2006, so it would be a good option. They do allow some cruise ship guests but I have not heard any complaints from clients about it being over run or anything like that. Good luck & have fun! IrieLady

someone posted a thread yesterday that painted a pretty bleek picture of whitehouse's infrastructure.... might be fixable with a series of minor repairs, but when you have an electrical system that is literally underwater, well you might need a closure to take care of it... you say last minute, and it appears that these concerns are likely going to rise to the surface very soon... I wouldn't recommend it for a last minute trip or at all until the issues are addressed... i will dig up the thread Chelle

My husband and I have been to Whithouse, Royal Caribbean (Montego Bay), Dunns River, and Beaches Negil. Our favorite was SDR. It's a good size so everything is close. You get to know both staff and guests. I did not notice it being invaded. SWH is quieter and more relaxed. It also has a much bigger beach. SDR has a more lively pool. SWH is more romantic. It just depends on what you want. If you want to do a lot of excursions then either SDR or SN would be better.

We have been to all three resorts and I would recommend Sandals Negril. The atmosphere is just much better in Negril. The beaches are better as well. Our 1st trip to Negril was last February and we fell in love with the resort.

Overall, in my humble opinion, Sandals Whitehouse is the place to be! Sandals has taken the best features of all its Caribbean resorts and rolled it into Whitehouse! Dunns would be a close second. If you are really into nightlife at an all-inclusive resort and not the Hedo type... Ihighly recomment Breezes Ruanway Bay! Feel free to email me directly...

I have been to both Negril and Dunn's River. I enjoyed both, but Negril is more updated on the outside, while Dunn's River is more update on the inside. Also, if you want to be close to a bunch of tours - Dunn's River is a better choice. While my boyfriend and I enjoyed both resorts, we liked Negril a little better because of the beach and dining options. But with Negril, there is a small airport near the resort, so little prop planes do occassionally fly over. And believe me, I am the type of person who gets really annoyed by things like this but after the first few times, it actually didn't bother me anymore. There are an equal amount of bars at both resorts.
