The mosquitos have always loved my daughter. When she was over a year old, the doctor said I could use repellant with Deet, it was the only thing that worked. It think we used one with 15% Deet. My friend swears by the bug band, its a yellow band you wear around your wrist. You would have to order them online.

I hope that helps. We stocked up on bug spray for our trip, we leave Wednesday.

I bought an all-natural product, Bug Mace, and had no problems at all. I picked this brand because I could get smaller bottles of it to carry-on the plane. You could also just Google "natural insect repellents" and get tons of ideas. After reading more about DEET, I'd be very cautious about using it on infants and small children. Just my opinion. :-)

I have plenty of advice to offer, but urge you to seek the advice of your Family Physican/Pediatrician for this type of recommendation... we are but humble touristas!

I've always been hesitant to use bug sprays with deet for my toddler. However, since he is a yummy feast for those pesky insects everything without deet seemed to not work as well. I recently purchased OFF family which has a lower deet percentage as well as no smell and it works great. I also buy the wipes since most kids don't like you spraying that stuff on them anyway. The wipes work just as good and you can even get their forehead and cheeks without the chances of getting it in their eyes or mouth.

Use Cactus Juice - it's all natural, works really well, and (unlike Deet) smells very nice. I've used it myself, and have just purchased another supply. Here's the link to the website where you can buy it:

I would second the suggestion for Boots own brand. The yellow one was ideal for my toddler, prior to that when she was just a baby we used their pale blue one - no deet or strong odour and you can use more frequently if need be.

I absolutely love and swear by a mosquito repellant made here on the island...pure natural ingredients, no chemicals. 100% pure botanical oils and vitamin E...it can be used as is from the bottle or mixed in with your favorite skin moisturizers. It has a light citrus-y smell and works equally well against sand fleas (my nemisis)....the bottle is small and can easily slip into a pocket or bag so you can have it with you anytime.

One 2 oz bottle should easily last a family a week as it is concentrated and in oil form.

It can be found in any gift shop or grocery store and should run no more than $5US tops.

The company that makes this oil, called NO MOSQUITO Aromatherapy Body Spray is Starfish Oils. This link should take you to a photo on their website so you know what to look for:
