Does anyone know if the Bob Marley tour to Nine Miles is available from Montego Bay. My son wants to do this tour. I did it in Ocho Rios. If it is available does anyone know the price? I thought you might know the answer to this JamaicaSteve.

Hi again Maria.

Yes you will definately be able to get a Nine Mile from anywhere in Mobay. ( I think you are staying at SSB right? ) Browse around and you should be able to find some tour companies.

Depending on the package, it shoud cost you 20$-30$ more per person for the transportation. The entrance price will be the same of course. I think you should expect to pay $60 to $80 per person, depending on the size of your group.

WELL worth it in my opinion! Your son should be very appreciative of you. Much respect to you.

IandI, forever faithful, forever sure.

God bless you Maria.

Steve

Maria2rrt,

When I stayed at the Royal Decameron Montego Beach in January, our group wanted to go to Nine Mile. We talked to many different tour operators and private taxis. We settled on a Private mini-van driver who was recommended from the Resort, and stationed right across the street from the Royal Decameron. We used him the prevous day to take a tour around Mo-Bay and up into the hills to meet some locals. A very interesting and enlightning experience. He was first-rate.

It cost our group of 5 $150US for the trip to Nine Mile and back. That's $30US per person for a full days travel. That's a good price for what we received. We were on our own so we could stop whenever we wanted, as opposed to being with a larger tour group and being forced to do what the bus driver or the group wants to. We stopped countless times to eat or to get a drink (make sure to take care of your driver and he will return the favor many-times over) or take a break and mingle with the people of Jamaica. That trip was the Hi-lite of our trip, it's no wonder that your son wants to go. If it's just the two of you, then talk with other guests at the Resort and maybe you can split the cost.

The most Important thing that I did before we left was to get the price agreed upon in writing BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Just get the driver to write on his business card the Total price for the trip, and to make sure that it's not for each person. I mentioned this to the driver before we left and he giggled. He asked me if I had been "Taken" before. I said no..."But it's better to be safe than sorry". He agreed and told me that he didn't do that. I trusted him because he was recommended by the Resort, and everything was fine, but this is a common practice in other Countries to state the price was per-person after the trip is over. :)

That is so awesome Dale,

I'm glad you did end up going and taking your own cab. Years and years from now you will remember that trip day more than anything else.

Were there any other travellers at Nine Mile when you visited?

Do you remember how long the drive time was, or were you stopping all over (like I always do) along the way?

Blessings and respect to you,

Steve.

... so when are you going BACK ?!? lol lol

Jamicasteve,

I think...The drive time from Montego Bay was around 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours give or take 20 minutes, but don't quote me on that. LOL I really wasn't watching the time, just enjoying the wonderful sights and sounds of the Beautiful Country of Jamaica! That doesn't include stops at a Rum Factory in the middle of nowhere to use the "facilities", or to stop for several drinks, or the little 20 minute detour on account of taking the wrong turn somewhere. But it was all good Mon! I made sure to bring a good sized bag of Candy in my Backpack and whenever we stopped somewhere gave a few pieces to any children that came to say Hello. The smiles we recieved really made our day. :)

We originally planned on going to both Nine Mile and Dunn's River Falls on the same trip, but only had time to go to Nine Mile, but no one minded, we will hit The Falls on our next trip. And everyone in our group will now file the Nine Mile Location on our permanent "To Do List" each time we visit Jamaica, which will be Next Winter....and I can't Wait!

Yes there were other Travelers at Nine Mile who were taking the tour at the same time as us. I think of the 15-20 people there, most were from Canada, there was a couple from the US, and there were two young backpacker Gals from Italy.

Maria2rrt,

The fee for us was $15US per person. You also get to "Sign-In" the guestbook of all the travelers who have visited Nine Mile. We also gave a small tip to our guide at the end of the tour to thanks him for such a great time. He was truly amazing. Such a character! I think he said his name was "Yoshi"?? but others on TripAdvisor stated his name was "Curtis"?? Either way you will never forget his laugh, and the way he Talks about the Rasta way of living and the many stories he has to tell about Bob Marley. I HIGHLY encourage visitors to visit Nine Mile!

A few tips about Nine Mile, if you don't want to be hassled by people trying to give/sell you some "Special Smoke" right when you enter the gates on Nine Mile, just make sure your windows are up. If you do accept the "Gift" (which will be FEVERISHLY presented to you) then on your way out the same person who gave you the gift will request to be payed for the Gift and will be just as energetic to get payed. Just a heads-up on that. Also, I looked around the Gift Shop at Nine Mile and found a t-shirt that I wanted to buy, but they didn't have my size. I falsely thought that I could still buy a t-shirt back on the Hip-Strip that said "Nine Mile" on it. WRONG. The only place to get Nine Mile gifts, is at Nine Mile. So if you go, just remember that. Also you are not allowed to video-tape any part of the tour itself, but you are allowed to take pictures of your guide and the things on the tour. The ONLY place/part you can't take pics is in the "Final Resting Place" of Bob Marley. Your tour guide will tell you when it's time to put away the cameras. You will also be requested to take off your hat and shoes out of Respect to The Man and The Legend...Bob Marley.

Respect and Love to All who have, or Intend on Visiting Jamaica! You will Forever be a "Jamaica-holic" after just a small taste. :)
