Will only be in Kingston for 3 days and I am wondering.... out of the three hotels I mentioned above.. which hotel would be the best to stay in? Are any of the three in New Kingston? Also should we rent a car or is it close/safe enough to walk to the downtown area from any of the three hotels? Help?

The Indies is a long established good budget "inn". It has a nice bar and restaurant across the road. It is very well located in New Kingston, close to restaurants, banks, supermarkets and other shops. For visitors going around Jamaica a hire car is an absolute necessity but if you are in Kingston for only three days you could use a taxi (just ask the reception to phone for one). Walking around Kingston is a scary experience especially for white folks and is not generally recommended especially after dark. This is due to the lack of sidewalks, the heat, and the numbers of loafers and beggars in your face. The Indies is close to Devon House, one of the few civilised retreats from the chaos of the streets. I don't know the other places at all.

Indies hotel is the one you should use if

you want to be in the New Kingston area.

You cannot walk from the hotel to the

downtown, it's best or safer to rent a car.

Hello snwblk,

No matter which one of these hotels that you choose, it will be adisable to take a taxi.

Since you have to take a taxi, then stay in this gem of a hotel.

Far from the city noise and traffic yet only 10 minutes from New Kingston.

ALHAMBRA INN
