Good Place to stay in Kingston? |
|
Hello On May 13 I'm going to Kingston for a business trip for 4 days. I would like to stay in a safe, quiet and nice hotel. (many are sold out) Please let me know Thank you. |

Best place to stay in Kingston vicinity is Strawberry Hill... might not be in your budget or in a reasonable distance. Have you looked into Terra Nova? It's in New Kingston, but a little away from the main strip, so sees less traffic and may not be booked... is there something going on in the area at that time or are you just going by online search engines? (I will be looking for something on the 14th and am wondering if I should book now... if it's just a specific engine that you are using, try calling the property directly or a different engine... I've been looking at rooms and one site will say no availability, other has rooms listed in all categories...) Chelle

I stayed at the Courtleigh five years ago and was quite impressed. West Indies are playing Australia (at cricket) at Sabina Park on 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th May. That may have something to do with the lack of availability.

We stayed at the Courtleigh in December and it was very nice - I'll be posting a review soon (yes, I'm a procrastinator). The penthouse suites are really, really nice, and not that much more expensive than the regular rooms. The hotel has business facilities (fax, etc.), and the suites have a nice desk and dataport for internet access (regular rooms also have dataports, but I'm not sure about desks). The food in the restaurant is excellent, a pretty nice breakfast is included - they had a great selection of fresh fruit, including jack fruit! They have 2 very pleasant bars - one indoors, and a small one by the pool, where I had an extremely good pina colada. Everyone who worked at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Mary

Hotel Four Seasons is nice, quiet, small and family-run. Terra Nova is another good choice. Failing those two, Christar might be another option for you. I would agree with Chell that Strawberry Hill is the best bet but it is expensive and about 20 minutes from Kingston proper.

Courtleigh I recommend and or Morgan's Harbour in Port Royal (5 mins from the airport in Kingston)

I think Strawberry hill in overpriced and too much of a trek to get to when you need to be in Kingston (traffic gets really bad especially during rush hour). Hilton is fine if you get a good deal (www.hotwire.com), JA-Four Seasons (not the chain) is good if you get a room poolside but its off the beaten track if you want to walk about, as is Terra Nova. My fave place is Altamont Court. Family/Jamaican owned. Great staff, really friendly and defo economical. Good clean rooms and safe. Its behind the Hilton and within walkin distance to all the shops and cafes which is great.
