There aren't any. At least none we found. However, in lieu of McD's or BK try Juicy Patties. Spicy but not bad. For a relatively cheap meal, the snack bar in the lobby of the Hilton worked well for us with no post meal intestinal issues. I guess you could say the "Bullseye" just up the street from the Hilton was OK. On our last night, we splurged and went up to Irishtown in the Blue Mountains and had a very expensive...but good... dinner in a fabulous setting at "Strawberry Hill". Fortunately for us, we had a native Jamaican friend join us and he shouldered all the driving responsibilities. The 45 minute ride up (and down) the mountain is no place for the inexperienced driver. Treacherous..almost terrifying...especially so after dark. I would point out that, except for Strawberry Hill, none of our friends in the professional midddle class made any restaraunt recommendations except or Strawberry Hill". Only real negative, we had a rock thrown at us going through Papine.

Hello Nibbs, Your question has very little detail from which to go by and do a just recommendation. Kingston is the capital of Jamaica. However, most people live and work in St Andrew. This is where you will find an abundance of restaurants to meet every mood and taste buds.

My favourite is not even published or listed. This is how things work on an island. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Up-on-the-roof, tlf. 876-9298033.

Then Ivors in Jacks Hill, Alexanders, Courtleighs. Edens, Grog Shop. If you want to eat the best fresh fish or lobster, then go to Hellshire beach and sit on a wide bench under a tree and the lady chef will serve you the best meal. No Listing. No telephone and no advertising. Go there on a weekend and you will have to wait in a long line.

Hello again nibbs1234. And the list goes on and on. It is hard to tell you which are better. It depends if you like Oriental, Jade Room. Or Indian or International. There are so many. I am a good eater and am in love with the art of enjoying a good meal. Sometimes I have a craving for Indian or Chinese or Lebanese. They are all there. For a real eating experience you must stop at one of the many 45gallon drums that they use to grill chicken and pork along with a roasted corn-on-the-cobb. All this, together with a cold Red Stripe beer, makes life worth living for.

Here is another list of 16 restaurants in Kingston. It all depends on your taste buds and if you want formal or casual. The best meals in Jamaica are not always served in places with a table cloth and cutlery. My fingers have held the most delicious lobster, fish and seasoned pork or chicken that the island has to offer. I guess you have to be an islander to appreciate this.

Don't listen to the negativity. If you want to experience the variety of Jamaica, there are plenty places. I've only been here 3 days so far, but restauarants are not a problem, unless you're merely trying to replicate a US city experience in Kingston. A place with great ambience is Red Bones Blues Cafe. It's in a converted private home, and the food is delicious.

Sorry if this a bit late but...

And there's more than six...

These are some of my favourites:

Terra Nova Hotel (Waterloo Rd)- Good food, in a classy setting. One of the top restaurants in Kingston.

Gauchos (off Waterloo Rd) - Steak place in a pleasing surroundings, reasonable prices.

Akbars/Thai Gardens (Holborn Rd) - Areally good place to eat Thai or Indian food, inside/outside dining available.

Red Bones (Braemar Av) - Decent Food and a nice bar.

Cassons (braemar AV) - English Pub with good pub food.

Chinese restaurants are grouped on Northside plaza off of Hope Rd.

Usual Takeaways are on Knutsford Blvd.

Good Veg/Ital place on Hope Rd is Livitys (next to KFC !)

Up On The Roof (Knutsford Blvd) - Good Restaurant, nice quality Carribean food, above Epiphany Nightclub.

Courtleigh hotel does decent food sometimes have a special menu on Weds. Hilton food is very average. Pegasus coffee shop is quite good for lunch.

Normas on the terrace at Devon House is highly rated but can be expensive.

The Grog Shoppe there (Devon House) is a good place for a drink and food and Devon House I scream is a must.

Guilt Trip at Orchid Plaza on Barbican Road is good too (near the Sovereign Centre) also in the Sov. Centre Jades Gdn is meant to serve good Chinese Food.

Rib Kage on Constant Spring is good for ribs and steaks and is reasonable in price.

Chez Maria on Hillcrest Ave does lebanese/continetal food, quite reasonable in price.

If you want Jerk, try Our Place on hope rd. or the outside stall at the bottom of Northside Plaza.

If you want a really good meal and your are going to Ochi from Kingston, try Cafe Aubergine at Moneague, it is the best restaurant on the island in my opinion.

Finally if all you can eat is patties, try the ones from Devon House brick oven bakery as an alternative, they are good.

Bon Appetit.

Guys - the best kept secret for a great restaurant has to be Velisa's on Devon Road - admittedly not been open long, but long enough to create a great dining experience - used to be all vegetarian but has added organic meats to the menu. Verdict - delicious! Also Terra Nova's Sunday Brunch is a great bargain for a great deal of food in a classy setting. Terra Nova's gaming room Monte Carlo - the best burger in town!

Bon appetit - or as Jamaicans say - bone up you teet!!

Velisa's is a great choice but anyone going there for the first time will find it hard to find - there is no sign outside and it just looks like a house. If you go, try the guiness punch it is wicked. Best to get directions by phoning ahead.
