Now I wasn't in Kingston but my family & I had a driver for one day to take us to & from Ocho Rios (we were in Negril) and we tipped 20 per person in the "van" with us & there was 6 of us..but was outstanding took us anywhere we wanted to go & was VERY informative about the island.

So, in total, you gave about 120 Jamaican dollars which is about 80 p in the UK or 40 cents in US ?

That seems very cheap but if its the going rate !

$20J is not a going rate for anything.

$20 US per person from Negril to Ocho Rios (I assume)...and even that seems low.

I would never tip somebody as little as $20J. For a short drive from KIN to the Hilton, I would give a couple of US dollars per person over the negotiated fare, at least.

To hire a private driver for the day, you would be looking at $100 US or so plus fuel.

Sorry for the misunderstand...my transportation was included in the price of the tour I was on that day, so aside from his "wage" for the day he was given an additional $20 USD p/p x 6 people is $120 USD, which I thought was fair, but perhaps I was wrong... :(
