I've seen a lot of requests for contacts that do boat rides, tours, fishing, etc.... Here are some honest people I know down there who are priced well below the competition.

Peter (Charter fishing)

Peter Charley is a captain in the Mo Bay area. He does charter fishing throughout the north coast area. Peter is a good captain to sail with if you're after large game fish such as marlin. The last time I checked Peter's rates they were $400 US for a 1/2 day and $800 US for a full 8 hour day of fishing. That price included all passengers, beer, soda, water, snacks, and all fishing supplies needed. Peter Charley's number is (876)438-2629. His boat's name is Marlin Madness.

Vern (Airport transfers, tours, and taxi)

Vern is a JUTA licensed taxi. He is a great local guide and can take you anywhere on the island. Vern took me to my first live reggae concert a few years ago. It was great my friends and I were the only foreigners there. Vern's number is (876)862-2677. He is from Negril but can pick you up anywhere.

Charlie, O'neil, Conroy, and Cali. (Glass bottom boat rides, booze cruises, river rides to national park, and tours.)

These guides are located in the Negril area. Cali has his own taxi and can pick up visitors staying somewhere else but who want to check Negril out for the day(s). These guys also have connections throughout the Negril/Redground area and can get you anything you want to enhance your vacation pleasure at a good price. Charlie's number is (876)391-0859. O'neil's number is (876)363-6543.

I frequent Jamaica often (3-5 times a year) and I maintain contact with all of these guys because they're honest. All of the mentioned guys are priced well below the hotel and tour companies' prices for the same exact types of trips. If I didn't mention something you want to do all of these guys can probably do it or else get you in contact with someone who can at a good price. Tell them that Corey and Tanisha sent you and you'll probably get an even better price. I hope this helps anyone leaving for Jamaica. No matter what you decide, enjoy Jamaica. It truely is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Blessings and save travel,

Jamerican28

Great idea, to create a topic that can be referred to as people ask, it comes up so often.

Here's my list :)

Airport transfers or tours from Montego Bay area: Delroy cell# 876-999-5298. We've had Delroy pick us up for sevral years now, he is wonderful, older man with 3 children, the eldest in college. Let him know if you'd like him to fill a cooler for you.

Dennis Abrahams, fisherman and boat tour guide out of Treasure Beach: Dennis home: 965-3084 cell: 876-435-3779 (always seems to find the dolphins on the way to Black River!)

Chicken, our driver in Negril, will do intra-Negril or tours, has a VERY cushy, large bus yet charges the same as a taxi. Especially useful for groups of 8 or more. home #1-876-957-9626 cell #1-876-378-3348

Chef Thompson, tour guide out of Black River (south coast area): web site: www.cheftours.5u.com - great fun and knows the NE coast area very well too as he used to live/work there

Sala Kerr, tour guide out of Negril area: www.talkofthetowntours.com

Carolyn/Errol Barrett, tour guides out of MoBay area www.barrettadventures.com

We've personally hired all of these people and love them all, very honest, reliable, knowledgeable and fun. All have been used by us at least 3 times each over the last 5-10 years.

I just gotta add to your list as I had the BEST Driver ever while I was there last month!

His name is Rosevelt out of Montego Bay, you can contact him at 1-876-373-5404. Tell him Diana sent you! LOL

I was with my son and we went all over site seeing! We went to the Roaring River Cave! Bring your bathing suit! Great place for kids! My son just loved it! He even knew where the hot spots where in the evening! Better thenMargaritaville every night!

Well hope everyone going to Jamaica soon has a great time!

Feel free to add honest people. The goal of this topic is for people to find honest people in every location of the island.

I'm kind of partial to Soloman Kerr of Talk of The Town Tours. We had a fabulous time with him and his wife while in Negril. They took US out to lunch and there were 12 of us! Great couple!

Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to hire a car/driver to literally go all over the island? For instance, start in Port Royal, drive to Port Antonio, then to Mandeville, then to Treasure Beach, etc? This trip would take several days. Would the driver expect to have a hotel room provided for him, or could he "commute" back and forth when you were ready to change towns?

I've wanted to do this for a long time, but have been a little hesitant about it due to price concerns, and also, would like a good recommendation on the person.

Byoft,

I'm sure someone would do it. They'd probably have to stay with you but he'd also probably be able to get you local rates. I know I let my wife book the hotels because she gets the local rate. Give Vern a call. If you set something up with him in advance he'd probably be able to. I'm going down Sunday so I'll ask around and try to get you a price figure.

Another recommendation from us for Talk Of The Town Tours! We have had both Sala and David as drivers, and both are great.

Not only are they honest and reliable as drivers and guides, but contact them while you are planning for ideas for your trip, or input on resorts, etc.

Hey Soloman (Sala) from Talk Of The Town Tours (http://www.talkofthetowntours.com) has a very loyal fan club, and it's well deserved! Glad to see some more of you have met the man, and his wife Sienna.

I know I had it in the back of my mind to do a whole island cruise too. Of course once I got there I realized this is a major major undertaking and needs to be planned out way and well in advance.

I asked Soloman about this and he said that anytime someone plans to take trips that mean a overnight stay for the driver, the party chartering the trip must take into account that the driver's hotel room for the night and meals have to be covered too.

Or, I'd probably take the day price of a trip and double it to be sure that the driver has enough to get a room somewhere and food and drinks for the day.

I know Sienna mentioned, and I could see she was right, that due to road conditions the average hourly coverage in distance will be no more than 30-35 miles. Jamaica looks mighty small on a map but most of the roads are rough or narrow and if you get behind a big truck you're not going anywhere fast.
