I'm a snorkeler, not a diver, but I've found a whole lot more divesites than snorkeling in the area that I visit. I refer to the Bayahibe area of La Romana on the south coast. You posted under Samana but are asking for suggestions for which part of the island to head to so I offer it.

I can send you a couple of maps highlighting some of the divesites if you're open to that area and interested.

You can fly into Punta Cana, Santo Domingo OR La Romana to get to that area.
