Leaving Sunday for Bavaro Beach and Caribe and need to know if a credit card can be used for excursions. We don't want to bring to much US cash. Also any comments on Saona Trip is sounds like fun.....Anyone else going that week?

do not use a credit card in DR if you can help it. If you really need to, only at your hotel. get the safe in your room and bring the cash, Its better than fraudulent charges on your card.

You can use your credit card if you are purchasing your excursions from your Tour Operator (you charged your vacation with them, right). But SunBum is right about the very real possibility of credit card fraud off of the resort. The reports are commonplace.

It is doubtful that you will get a good deal using your CC for excursions. While the bank will be fair with the conversion to $CDN the Tour Operator will not when they convert the quoted price in $US to $RD pesos to charge your card. They make lots of money on currency transactions in addition to their average 40% commission on the excursions.

I always take $US cash and make judicious use of the rented safe.

The Saona trip is $78.00 US and if you book it through your tour rep. you do not have to worry using your credit card we have never had a problem ,but if you book it anywhere else we have heard enough horrer stories. We did not take this tour but everybody who did had a blast

If you use a credit card just look at your bill when you get home. My husband was billed twice for golf but they took it off but it does take awhile for the process to go through. Keep receipts for sure.

Just came back and loved Saona excursion. Reserve your choosen date as soon as you can. It is a popular trip. It is a long drive to get there but it's worth it. We used the credit card at the hotel to pay that trip. The bill didn't come in yet but I would be surprised if the billing as wrong.
