Can anyone tell me if they were able to call home (US) from the Iberostar Bavaro? Are we able to use a Verizon cellphone there and if so, do you know how much the connection fees/ cost per minute were?

I have a Verizon cell phone as well...I 've been told the DR uses Verizon but I'm not sure of the cost involved...

Heres the deal with verizon cel phones in the DR: they work, and you will not be charged roaming. The reason why I know this is because I was there in Sept and again for Christmas/New Years. I used my phone all the time. I even gave my cel phone to my fiancee who lives there and bought myself a new one so I don't have to keep buying calling cards. Today is 2/7 and not once was I charged roaming. Verizon is their major phone company.
