Was wondering what Punta Cana is known for??? In Spain its Leather and silver, in Mexico you can get really cheap silver and in India they have very cheap gold. Just was interested in what the area if anything was big on.

Larimar jewelry... Larimar is a blue pectolite stone that is only found in the Dominican Republic. It is beautiful. You can find it set in gold and in silver. Check out http://www.larimarmuseum.com/ if you want to see some pictures.

It really depends on where you get it and what it is set in. I purchased a pendant and some earings for what we estimate to be $20 - $30 US (they were part of a bunch of items we got from a vendor on the beach at Secrets). They were set in silver and very reasonable. The stones were gorgeous. Set in gold or platinum, larimar will be more expensive. You can look around on the internet and see some of the going rates.

I have a larimar stone that I bought here in the states, It is set in silver and its about the size of a quarter and is was around $50, its a beautiful stone, I guess it depends on size and what the setting is, but its worth it, very unique.... I'm hoping to see some nice pieces in DR when we go.

You can buy the Lamar stone for cheap or expensive. In the little shops on the beach they are fairly cheap, but beware! I bought a pendant which was only about $10.00 (a shop on the beach) and it has held up great. I wear it about everyday. But I also bought a pair of earrings and they were junk. The broke the first time I wore them. Of course I only paid about $2.00 for them.

The stones that were in the shops at the resort had some really nice ones, but some of them were really expensive. I would say, just shop around for something that really catches your eye, and then go for it. They really are pretty stones and I get compliments all the time on mine.

kkjbb - Sorry about the previous blank post...

I basically found the same to be true. My pendant, which is a pretty good size is gorgeous and has held up very well. My earings, they are also junk. But I paid about the same prices as you did.

lovetotravel2005 - Amber is also big in the Dominican, although I am unsure of the prices. I was mainly shopping for Larimar. They did have amber almost everwhere I saw the larimar.
