I don't want to scare anyone , but I was checking about vaccinations that were recommended for travel to DR by looking on the CDC website when I saw that they had a malaria update. I called the CDC & they've just made a recommendation for prophylactic treatment b/c of recent malaria outbreaks in the Punta Cana area. I thought it was just the rural areas to be concerned about, but they said it was 2 cases where people stayed in resorts. I verified it w/them twice b/c I don't really want to overreact, but they said they are recommending it. Treatment is w/chloraquine & needs to be started one week before you leave. Anyone heard about ??
