Hi,

Can someone please list the available options on phoning back home to Canada/US from Bayahibe, and specifically at the hotel Catalonia Gran Dominicus.

Thanks!

If this hotel would reply to my e-mails, I might have info for you! I'm going to try again from my work e-mail in case we have a compatibility issue, but for now I must assert that as a problem for me with this great hotel.

I e-mailed home and provided phone and room number and the time of day that I tended to be in the room. On another occasion I called home and then had home call me back. At least then you know how much you'll be charged without worry about surprise charges. To cover language barriers, have your family member say the room number, preferably as "eight-two-one-three" rather than "eighty-two, thirteen".

Don't use any of the 1-800 numbers you'll find on a card by the phone.

Thanks for the info Kaki.

However I have to mainly check voicemails so providing my number would not be helpful.

Do you know if there are any payphones on that resort where I could maybe use a phone card which I can purchase maybe at the airport before coming to the hotel?

Hi,

I just talked to my friend that works at the aqua center located at Catalonia, and she thinks you can call either directly from your room or from the reception area. They will charge it to your room and you pay at the check out like at any other hotel. Other option is to buy a cell phone here (taking little bit of time), it costs about $20 with SIM card and 100 pesos calling card included, charge per minute to Canada and USA is 8 pesos. We purchased cell phones before for our clients that needed to call home often.

If you need more info, message me

Happy travel

Denise

I have heard from Veronica at Guest Services. She advises that it is "$1 to call to North America". I have asked for confirmation that that is per minute (as opposed to a service charge or other) but I expect it would be. $1 a minute racks up quickly!

WOW, that's pretty expensive and they probably add service charge to it too at the end.

So maybe my suggestion with the cell phone would be the cheapest way to go if you need to call every day, well depends how long you will stay here
