Where to next? Is La Romana for me? |
Is La Romana or Bayhibe what I am looking for? My requirements: 1. Great Deal/Value 3-4 Star all-inclusive, I prefer atleast 7 nigth stays. I have been able to find previous deals on line, all less than $900/person including air. 2. Great entertainment/animation staff 3. Located on a beatiful beach. 4. Access to side trips...snorkling, ability to see the country, mountains, etc. Previous vacations have included superclubs.com/brand_breezes/…index.asp http://www.thereefplayacar.com/en/ occidentalhotels.com/allegro/PlayaDorada.asp Thank you for your help. Hi Annie, Check this site and you might get answers for most of your questions about the hotels and things you can do around here
Annie, I have answers to your questions and will get back to you after I work my two jobs today (sorry I missed your post earlier). If you can send me a note, I'll reply to your e-mail with an extensive list of tours, excursions and things to see in the area. It is in e-mail format so I can't post it here. I am confused as to what is the difference between La Romana and Bayhibe? Annie
Bayahibe is a small fishing village about 20 minutes drive from La Romana - bigger city with international airport, but there not all inclusive resorts and also there isn't a nice beach to go to. Some resorts say La Romana in their addresses but they are actually located either in Bayahibe or Dominicus.
Demi, Sounds like what I would want to look for would be either Bayahibe or Dominicus if I want an all inclusive with a great beach? Thanks, Annie

There isn't actually an AI in La Romana itself--that I'm aware of! I have been in communication lately with TripAdvisor to streamline the naming of areas since this is exactly what referring to the two separately leads to. They used to have 4 AIs listed under Bayahibe and 5 under La Romana. I told them that they had two that were side by side listed under the two areas separately! And Casa del Mar, which is truly the only AI close to Bayahibe was in La Romana. The small non-AI hotel in Bayahibe, "Hotel Bayahibe" was in La Romana too! The only ones that might be considered La Romana as opposed to Bayahibe would be Casa de Campo and the Gran Bahia Principe La Romana. If you look at the listing for Bayahibe now, there is a list of those in Bayahibe/Dominicus tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g663484-Bayahibe_Dom… and if you look under LR, you'll see the other two tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g147292-La_Romana_Do… As Demi said, La Romana is the nearest city of size (3rd largest in the DR) and the location of the international area. These days, however, more people fly into Punta Cana 90 minutes away than the LR airport 20 minutes away. AND...Bayahibe is truly in Altagracia province, like Punta Cana, so if you land at PUJ and drive 90 minutes to Bayahibe/Dominicus, you haven't actually entered La Romana at all. Kaki

Ooops. Last paragraph should say "international airport" not "international area".
