Off to Jolly Beach October 15th after losing XL holiday. I've been told to watch out for small mosquitoes. Can anyone advise please?

Hi there,

Yes, there are mosquitoes on the island which tend to come out in large numbers at dusk. During the day, however, they are dormant.

There are also "sand fleas" (or "sand flies") that will bite you, also at dusk. Not sure exactly what these things are, but they seem to hide in the sand and bite at dusk. After dark and during the day, they aren't a problem.

Long story short: bugs are bothersome at dusk, not too bad at night, and hardly noticeable during the day. Bring some bug spray and zap it on you when the sun starts to dip and you should be ok.

Hope this helps and enjoy your holiday!

Kelly,

When did you go? Do you get more mossies at different times of the year?

Hiya, i have just got back and i was bitten badly. Evreywher i went people were commenting on my legs. I used lots of repellent. My partner was ok for the first week and then got a few bites in the second week.

Just make sure you get some aloe vera to rub on and sooth them.

When do the little so and so's attack? Usually it's in the evening and are there any specific areas like the beach or gardensto avoid?

never went on the beach after dark only when the sunset was going down which was so beautiful, i seemed to go to bed and wake up with new ones in the morning so must have been when we were out in the evening or in bed and i allways sprayed my room with stuff before going out and left the air con on and smothered myself in lotion and sprays. We met a couple from coco's down the beach and the poor woman was literally covered in them from head to foot made mine look like nothing and she said they had no air con and she was getting bitten while asleep
