Hi

I think Antigua Village is very nice ,located on Dickenson Bay, but it can get very busy with the new Sandals located right next to you.The sea is usually very calm on that side of the Island.

What time of the year are you planning on coming to Antigua ?

Definately do not miss out on going to Coconut Grove-located right next to you on the left- for drinks/happy hour- in the afternoon and a great dinner out.

Regards

Antigua village is a self catering establishment, has a small shop on the premises, and a pool. The beach in front has been replaced by a stone wall to slow erosion but calm beaches are on either side. The beach properties do not seem particularily private as there is a path between the village and the sea front which goes from Siboney to Sandals and beyond. The Coconut Grove is excellent, so is Bay House restaurant at near Trade Winds. Dickenson Bay is generally a very busy area, with lots of activities, if that's your choice. And the price seems good, I think.

Also another restaurant The Beach, is on the other side of the village and tends to have lots of evening entertainments, so quite noisy.

I've stayed at Antigua Village 3 times. The facilities are dated, but very nice. It used to be my favorite place in the world. Unfortunately, my recent stay was not that great. We were there at the end of June, and our villa was robbed on our 2nd to last night. My digital SLR camera and ipod were taken. Someone knew exactly what they wanted and where to find it. No signs of forced entry, and all doors were locked. I reported it and got very little response from the security at AV or the local police. In fact, the police came and didn't even write anything down. I'm still waiting for a report - doubt it will ever come.

With the recent news of the murder on the island, more is coming to light about break-ins and crime.

It makes me sad b/c Antigua was my one and only vacation spot, but I doubt we will be returning.

Also - there is now a new "after-hours" club across the street from Antigua Village. It is in the building that used to be Putters. They blast music until 3am. Sleeping is next to impossible.

I hate to be a buzz-kill, but I can no longer recommend Antigua Village.

We stayed at Siboney's for a few days in June, and the security there and what I saw in AV, is practically non existent. I would never go back to Dickenson Bay although we were lucky and had no 'criminal' experience.

just to balance things out, I've been going to Antigua Village for the last 12 years, we have never seen or even heard of any problems there until these postings, I'm not for one second saying anything posted here is not true, and for sure Antigua is now going thru some tough times, that they need to stand up to and change. Antigua Village has alway had security personel who i thought did a very good job, as recent as last year we wouldn't even lock our door if we just went to the beach at A/V, that will change though. I'm not ready to stop going to A/V, but may start with some extra precautions, enjoy

I've stayed there. I don't recall any security and I got lots of attitude from the maids and staff. The beach was small and the pool was not very nice. When I checked out, there were phony charges on my bill which escalted into an argument because the customer is always wrong there. No, never again.

We've stayed there previously, and at Siboney next door, and will be going back to AV again in November. As another poster said, the place is a bit dated. I think it makes a difference if you end up in a unit that is owner occupied for some portion of the season. They tend to be a bit more updated. We like having a refrigerator so it worked out for us. Good restaurants on both sides of the property. We found the maids pleasant and helpful. The pool was fine but we spent most of our time at the beach or in the loungers along the sea wall. We've never felt unsafe in Antigua but we haven't been there in a few years.
