Maui Revealed (a questionable resource) disses it unfairly, but the beachfront village of Maalaea is beautiful, sunny, unspoiled, and possibly the best place on the island for families. Its wonderful trade wind breezes keep you cool outdoors. Maalaea's Maui Ocean Center is the best aquarium we have ever visited, has lots of nearby shops and places to eat, and a... more

We spent 16 days at the Island Sands...Oct.21st to Nov 6th. Our condo was 303. The Condo met all of our needs, and then some. I have read complaints re: the wind. When you go to Hawaii, you have to expect WIND..........and we had plenty!! We still wish we could go back SOON!!! The only complaint we had is the... more

We had two rooms and they were OK. It was hot while we were there and the air conditioning was a window unit that really only cooled the family room. The bedrooms had no cooling and especially the bedroom closest to the entrance was always hot and close. They have a lot of rules giving the impression they are more... more

We were very pleased with everything about our stay. We could view the whales, and turtles right off from the lanai. We didn't need to us the air conditioning, (but it worked fine). The trade winds blew thru our unit, which was lovely. The sandy beach at the dead end of this street is a close walk, and you can... more

We just returned 2 weeks ago. We stayed at the island resort for one week. The accom. were OK, we stayed on the 2nd floor. The wind was a major factor as the walls were very thin, we had housekeeping come daily as ants were also a problem. My husband fixed the sliding glass door and screen when we got... more

My husband and I stayed at the Island Sands and really enjoyed our stay. The condo was clean, comfy and had nice perks like a w/d & beach supplies(beach chairs, cooler, beach towels, boogie board etc..). It was a basic and small room but the AAA rate for a condo on Maui can't be beat! I'd recommend this room for... more

We stayed in unit 109 and had a fantastic view of the ocean and sunrises over Haleakela every morning. The property is older and somewhat worn, but we found it clean enough and we are neat freaks. We really liked the central location, but you would need a car here as there are few stores nearby. The owner had all... more

We recently stayed at the Maui Sands and had a new redone 2 bdrm on the 7th floor. Didn't find the wind noise any problem and we stayed at a condo because we didn't want to have to dine out every night. Stores were only about 10 minutes away in either Kahului near the airport or in Kihei just down... more

My wife and I stayed at Island Sands Room #107 for a week in May, 2006. Although we heard many comments about being "windy" and sometimes "smelly" (from cane refinery) in Maalea, we didn't really find this to be the case. It seemed to be windy all over the island. We found it to be a good central location for... more
