We stayed 3 nights at Castello di Spaltenna in June 2005 for our honeymoon and it was fabulous! The grounds are beautiful - looking out over the Chianti hillsides and grapes growing all around. The dinner is served outside in the grotto by candlelight; very romantic. Our location was perfect for lazy drives into the Chianti countryside searching for wineries... more
My husband and I honeymooned in Italy for two weeks and we spent 3 nights at Castello di Spaltenna. It was everything (and more) that we had expected it to be. It was charmingly rustic, romantic and the property was stunningly beautiful. Our window overlooked the vineyard, which was a breath-taking sight. We took advantage of playing tennis on the... more
Having originally booked a villa which turned out to have major power-lines on one side and someone constructing a house on the other, we came across Spaltenna by complete incident. This did however turn out to be a major stroke of luck. Well located in beautiful scenario and within easy proximity of something like 10 casttles, a number of lovely... more
This is a stunning place, a real oasis in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Every element seems to have been carefully considered by the owners and it offers a wonderful experience in many ways. It isn't without it's faults (see later) but the charm of the place more than makes up for these. The hotel itself is made up of several buildings... more

They also quoted me a price in Sterling then told me I would be settling the account in Euros. The exchange rate... more
A magnificent complex integrated to a 11th century 'pieve' (small church). Well groomed gardens and the most amazing views of the Chianti hills. Restaurant is in a magnificent cloister (not tried), and breakfast tables are also outside with stunning hillviews. The estate is just plainly beautiful. Took a refreshing swim in the nice pool. Tennis court available. The room itself... more
This was our last third stop on our Tuscany trip, having stayed at Castello di Velona in Montalchino and Hotel Lungarno in Florance. From the website photos, we thought we would like Castello Velona better, but staying here was much more enjoyable. The property has gorgeous grounds in a fairytale setting and is perfect for a 3 night stay or... more
We just got back from a wonderful two week trip to Italy - Venice, Florence, Tuscany region and Rome. We stayed at the Spaltenna after Florence to give us a break from the big cities. The views and the surrounding areas of the castle are amazing. Considering the price (330 Euro per night, rough at the current USD exchange rate),... more
This is a beautiful property that truly gives you the feel of staying in a Tuscan Vineyard. Everyone that works there is very friendly andt helpful. Breakfast is exceptional and enjoyed in nice weather on an amazing patio with views to the hills. Our room was spacious with a nice balcony that looked over the hills and you felt you... more
