I stayed at the Islander for my second trip to Hawaii. My theory on traveling is to not spend as much on the hotel, and use the money I saved on activities and excursions. The Ohana Islander is a great hotel for the stingy budget-minded traveler. The aura and ambiance is very Hawaiian. The staff display great customer service. The... more

Noise from ongoing renovations was not a problem for us, however, parking was a little inconvenient. Pedestrian access to the parking garage is on the opposite side. We had a little trouble unloading and loading luggage. Ask the front desk about easiest access. On our third trip from the parking garage, we found a tunnel of sorts through the construction... more

At first when we arrived at the hotel I was concerned about all the construction that was going on and thought this construction would negatively affect our stay. But, soon after settling in our room and meeting the staff I was pleasantly surprised how a great staff can make stay so comfortable. I travel quite alot for my job and... more

We stayed here for one night before our return journey to the UK. Our room was of a reasonable size however the space had not been used well. I say this because the bathroom was tiny with only a shower and no bath. There was not room for 2 people to use the room at the same time. We did... more

Just an ugly room in an unspectacular hotel. The "pool" is not much larger than a hot tub with depths ranging from 2 feet to 4 feet. $15 per night for parking, and the lot is so small sometimes we had to park at a lot across the street. Our lanai on the 9th floor faced a blank gray concrete... more

After reading other reviews before we booked our room we opted to spend another $10 per night for a "City View" room. We were on the 6th floor and had a really nice view off our Lanai looking down onto Kalakaua Ave. (See Picture). The whole staff was really nice: Friendly maids, desk staff, and parking attendants. A local morning... more

When it was built (probably in the 1960's), I'll bet this was a premier class hotel. Unfortunately for the owners, the Waikiki building boom has surrounded it with other buildings, parking lots and construction, and the only view from the rooms is of an adjoining building or of endless traffic. Nonetheless, the owners have maintained the place well, and it... more

First I want to mention that some of the prior reviews mention a Subway and Starbucks at this location. Those were closed when we visited last week. There is still construction in the area (and probably will be for most of 2006) but there was only one morning that the noise actually woke us up. We found the desk staff... more

I took a trip to Honolulu earlier this year with my girlfriend. We felt the locaiton of the hotel was excellent for the price. Very close to other great hotels and shopping areas, and a only 2 blocks to Waikiki Beach. The location was definitely ideal for people who want to check this area out and are on a budget.... more

Me and two friends stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in Nov/Dec. We found the hotel to be VERY BASIC. The room was clean and tidy and housekeeping was excellent. The pool had missing tiles and the cranes working on the site next door (there is construction everywhere around this hotel) were practically moving over us while relaxing by... more
