This is not a place for everyone. If you like a quiet out of the way place with excellent, not fancy, food, clean rooms with wonderful artwork, naturalists to take you out, trails to walk, and a wonderful friendly staff, this is for you. If you want to have a drink with dinner, choices on the menu, and a busy,... more

My husband and I stayed in the Warbler room at Myra's Retreat for 5 days. You pass by some modest homes and mobile home parks in Silver City on the way there, but don't despair as you will soon be arriving in a very special place. When we first checked in, we wondered if we would find enough things to... more

We spent three nights at the lodge and it was fabulous. The landscape, food, facilities were all a cut above. The guided events by Mike were informative, relaxed and some of the best I have ever experienced. There are many, many things to do in the area. more

Four of us, two couples, celebrated a deliciously chilly birthday weekend with two nights at the Nature Conservancy's Bear Mountain Lodge. The main lodge is a handsome two story stucco building which contains six guestrooms, four up, two down, each with a large private bath. Downstairs there's also a dining room and a small gift shop, plus two sitting areas... more

We stayed 2 nights in the Cabeza de Vaca room. It was upstairs and really lovely. Had a nice patio with table & chairs. The lodge is beautiful. We had breakfast & dinner there 2 times each. We felt that the dinners were great. Breakfast was only OK, mainly because of the choices given. The one thing we found strange... more

We stayed 6 nights in this beautiful lodge in the Gila room. We went out two days with the naturalist who works on site, hiking on the lodge grounds and on another N.C. property on the Mimbres. We did other hikes in the area on our own. This location was excellent for the variety of activities we did, from hiking... more

Would that it would have been the ENGLISH COUNTRY HOUSE experience in the wilds on New Mexico one might have hoped for. The tight lipped staff combined with their evident surrender of the supposed experience to Resident/Volunteer staff and their uncontrollable visiting relatives turned things sour. If being confined to quarters with a bed and a chair, summoned to the... more

We stayed 2 nights in the Bluebird room. It was very spacious, very clean, attractive and comfortable. For us, it was preferable to a room in the main lodge, just a short stroll away. The on site hiking was enjoyable but not challenging. We did not leave the property during our stay. It was peaceful and relaxing. The meals were... more

We spent 3 nights in the Mimbres Room at Bear Mountain Lodge to celebrate my husband's birthday this past week. The Nature Conservancy owns and runs this beautiful lodge and we would like to thank them and the staff for providing such a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature and all its wonders and joys. They also have a... more
