Hotel Santa Barbara is an excellent choice for staying in Santa Barbara. It is centrally located on State Street, the shopping and nightlife mecca of Santa Barbara, but was unusually quiet and restful inside. Everything was top notch but it wasn't $400 dollars a night. It is the oldest hotel in Santa Barbara and is historically charming, tastefully updated and... more

Like other reviewers, we found the location most convenient and the parking so easy for such a central position. The reception area and lounge was charming and peaceful, the staff friendly and helpful and the room rates excellent value. We were a little surprised by the "Hampton Inn" style of help-yourself breakfast, which we thought beneath the standard of the... more

We stayed one night in Hotel Santa Barbara in June. The location is perfect: on the State Street and only 10 minutes walk to the famous Santa Barbara beach. The room was very good. The only negative thing that we overlooked the valet parking! Staff very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was a little bit too small in comparison to... more

Just returned from a two-night stay at the Hotel Santa Barbara. We picked this hotel for its central location on State Street, within walking distance either way of shopping, restaurants and bars. Simply outstanding location, also within only about a four-block walk to the beach. Room was perfectly adequate, but certainly not up to 5-star standards. However, very clean, nicely... more

We picked the hotel due to it's location in downtown. Great location but the hotel left something to be desired. The exterior of the hotel looked great in the pictures and in person it has a nice facade. That's where our high expectations ended. First, we had to wait 5 minutes before a desk person to acknowledge us even though... more

We stayed at the Hotel Santa Barbara in April of 2008, and we really enjoyed it. The location is perfect for touring Santa Barbara; the staff was helpful and pleasant; the room was small, but very clean and comfortable; and the in-room coffee maker actually comes with decent coffee! (Not great coffee, but definitely drinkable!) There is also free tea... more

This is my first review here, however I am Livid at their service. Firstly, the room was tiny with yellow decorations, and very old furniture (better off staying in a Holiday Inn). The night manager is a Nazi and power trips. I tried to bring a few guests up at night, and he said there was a maximum capacity of... more

Management response from
MarionKS, Manager

We regret that this guest left on such an unhappy note and spoke with him several times during and after his stay to explain why his request could not be granted. Allowing his group of intoxicated young unregistered guests into his room at 3 a.m. was not be in the best interest of guests asleep in surrounding rooms.

This was the worst hotel I could have choosen to stay at in Santa Barbara. The room was infested by spiders and when we asked hotel management to switch us out they said that they were going to charge us. Horrible service, would not reccomend it AT ALL! Beware of their whisper policy...the walls are so thin that you can... more

I've stayed here twice in the last two months. I really wanted to love it. Afterall, it's quaint, priced well and the location is amazing. But the location is also part of the problem. Our windows were shaking to the beat of the music next door with no relief until 1am when we were finally moved to an inferior room.... more

We liked the location and the old charm of the hotel. We were also impressed with their better then average continental breakfast which they served in their classy lobby area. The only disappointment was that we had to pay the nightly parking fee twice; once to the parking attendant and again when we were checking out. When I pointed out... more
