I am 75 years old and have travelled the world as an oil executive and stayed in many first class hotels. The Alvear Palace is at least as good as the very best. The service from the numerous staff was friendly, prompt and helpful. I cannot but give it the highest recommendation. BAC more

The hotel is an old-style grand hotel, well kept up and overstaffed (I suspect in part for security) We had a junior suite on the courtyard - no noise at all. The decor is classic French. The batroom was small but excellent - jacuzzi, sperate shower, bidet etc, Hermes toilitries etc. The staff was extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet was... more

Just returned from South America. I don't need to add much to the positive reviews about the Alvear Palace Hotel. Our room was large and beautiful (faced the main street on the 4th floor). The bathroom was very large too. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice. The location was perfect. The decor was not to my personal taste... more

I stayed at Alvear Palace with my wife in September for 5 days. We had a wonderful visit. The hotel was beautiful and the staff extremetly helpful. We had a very large room with a shower and a spa tub. We were on a low floor but heard little noise. The room was very comfotable and luxurious. I wasn't sure... more

We spent 5 days at the Alvear Palace over Christmas and had a fantastic time. We had a marvellous double deluxe junior suite, with 3 televisions, acres of wardrobe space, butler service and free internet access. All the essentials! The staff at the Alvear are very well trained and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. The buffet breakfast was outstanding... more

We stayed at the Alvear Palace for our first three nights in Buenos Aires (followed by 3 nights at the Fours Seasons and 1 night at the Caesar Park, reviews to be posted). The Alvear is an elegant old world hotel. We were upgraded from a Jr. Suite to a Deluxe Suite which was amazing. (Our rate was $520 US... more

Superb hotel, one of the best I have ever stayed in, very helpful reception staff. The concierge staff were the very best I ever experienced, really on the ball when trying to find you to give you a message. Very good room service food. Adjacent to the hotel is a small but excellent shopping arcade with some good quality antiques... more

I stayed at the Alvear in 2000 and had excellent memories of it (backed up by the recent Tripadvisor comments). Returning to Buenos Aires with my family in Dec 2007, I was keen to stay there again. I was so disappointed (see below why). Overall, you have an impression of a hotel living on past glories. Although the building is... more

Truly a palace in every sense of the word. Service par excellence, sublime cuisine, pure luxury decor. Caring, personal service on every level - except for one concierge chap - Claudio. Éverything you could wish for in a hotel - including champagne at breakfast! more

I was told by a friend that the Alvear is as fabulous as the Ritz in Paris, for half the price. I don't know, because, unlike my friend, I did not stay at the Ritz when we went to Paris (though our hotel there was quite lovely). I do know that the Alvear is world class and just stunning. The... more
