The Hotel can Onna is a very basic hotel. I went with my wife recently and got given a twin bed, in a small room with a bathroom. Location: The hotel is on a street with the canal passing by the front, and is quiet. There is a few bars and restaurants nearby within 2-3 minutes walk. Anne Frank museum... more

My husband and I have been to Amsterdam many times and this is the first and very last time at the Hotel van Onna. From now on I promise faithfully that never again will I ignore the majority review of any hotel on Trip Advisor. Lots of reviewers said Basic and I can only ask myself what part of Basic... more

I stayed at the Hotel van Onna for one night in March 2008 and was quite pleased with my stay. This is definitely a budget hotel, but it is a clean, pleasant one, which sets it apart from many other budget places to stay. My flight landed in Amsterdam at 7am and I took the train into Amsterdam’s central station.... more

Without doubt, the Van Onna is one of the best kept lodging secrets in Amsterdam. My wife and I stayed there during our honeymoon 25 years ago, I've stayed there twice since then, and my son and I are returning this summer, my wife and I likely in the winter. It's clean, quiet, charming, and the folks who work there... more

I wasn't expecting much after reading the previous reviews and that's exactly what I got. This seems to be a family-run operation and they're pretty friendly, but the rooms are really only a scant step up from a hostel. Definitely bring your own soap and shower shoes because the floors are pretty icky in the bathroom. Elbow pads would be... more

Have been stayingat Hotel Van Onna for the last 17 years of visits to Amsterdam. Loek is knowledgeable and a great host. The rooms are small but very clean. A quiet location in the Jordaan area. Nice breakfast too. more

We stayed at Onna two nights in March and really appreciated having a clean and professionally run place as our first destination in Holland. The location is excellent. The staff was friendly and efficient. The rooms are very spartan, but who cares when you're in Amsterdam? The point is to have a place to sleep, eat a breakfast and shower.... more

I've spent time in a number of other Amsterdam hotels in a similar price bracket and none match up to Van Onna. Experiences with vermin and dirty sheets and towels were the norm elsewhere! Although the Van Onna is very much like staying in a hostel with an en suite shower, the place is clean and the staff are helpful.... more

As others have mentioned, don't expect anything more than the basics. I had read these reviews, and thus was prepared for anything. But I was pleasantly pleased with my experience. It's situated in a beautiful part of the Jordaan, near the Anne Frank house. The location couldn't be better, if you like being far enough away from the bustle of... more
