We just stayed at the Ca'Bauta and were extremely disappointed after the great write ups here and the Conde Nast write up a couple of years ago. I can't think of a better place to stay in Venice than Ca Bauta. It is located near St. Marks Square (10 minute walk) in a very nice area. This is a great little hotel that ought to cost twice as much. The decor is, if anything, over the top. There's white and gold and marble everywhere - maybe a bit tres elegante for some. Stayed April 2003. The receptionist was fantastic and provided great restaurant recommendations. The rooms are spacious with high celing and decorated in Versace style. Location can not be faulted...in walking distance to St. marks without being overloaded with tourist paraphenaelia. more
