Visiting here was a great experience. The air is fresh, the water is pure, straight from a spring and above all, the people are wonderful. It is far from being luxurious (i.e. cold water showers and no electricity) but that is only a temporary inconvenience. What will last in my mind is how great a quality of life can exist... more

My wife and I just got back today from spending a fantastic week at Whitfield Hall. I must say up front that I love going to Jamaica, this has been our fifth time in four years. This trip was especially relaxing and on the other side of the coin the most physically challenging. The roads that you drive to get... more

I just recently stayed at Whitfield Hall and can report that it is indeed a wonderful spot in the Blue Mountains. One of my favorite things to do during my short stay was to sit with a book in front of the fireplace at night. My second favorite was to drink a cup of coffee (Blue Mountain coffee, of course)... more

I had read about Whitfield Hall in a couple of guidebooks and decided to try it out when I was in Jamaica. For $15 a night, I wasn't sure what to expect. This is what I had: a bunkbed in a room in a historic house. A good deal, I agree. The place wasn't full so I didn't have to... more

The drive up to Whitfield Hall is totally breathtaking! Be sure to go in a 4 wheel drive. The roads are steep and sometimes unpaved. Once you get into the mountains, the air is crisp and clear and the views are gorgeous. They're called the Blue Mountains because with the fog coming off, they have a bluish cast. Whitfield Hall... more

If you want to see some of the real Jamaica, this place is a must! Getting there is part of the adventure and the scenery is just incredible. The trip from Kingston can be made by minibus to Mavis Bank, which is the mannner of travel for the local population also. It is inexpensive but once you get to Mavis... more

Obviously things have changed little since I visited Whitfield Hall on the way to Blue Mountain Peak some 40 years ago. How good to know that this beautiful part of Jamaica is still a secret. Apart from the wonderful mountain landscapes and the delightful folk that live in the area my most vivid memory of Whitfield Hall were the breakfasts.... more

Whitfield Hall is about the "last stop" before you start the climb to Blue Mt. Peak. The facilties are spartan (gas lamps, bring your own food, twin beds), but the place, location and people are tops! I've made the trip to the peak over ten times in thirty years, evrytime spending at least part of one night at the hostel.... more
