Last summer, we took a 10,000 mile road trip throughout the U.S. on back roads and country highways.
Where the journey begins.
A very long first day, we wanted to get up to Hanover to drop some things off for the fall, when I was starting up another year of grad school.
3. Hotel at Turning Stone Casino
Ave price: $285
Smack dab in the middle on NY, and near my parents, we stopped in to gamble some hard earned dollars away at this surprisingly nice casino.
4. Niagara Falls
Very tempted at this point in the trip to throw the wife in a barrell over the falls. Seriously though, the view from the Canadian side is much prettier.
Reservation casino #2 on our journey, this one is close to the in-laws.
6. Mackinaw City
At one point the longest suspension bridge (until the Golden Gate opened), this bridge connects the UP with the LP. Yooper.
The self proclaimed most scenic little league park in America is here.
Geographic center of North America. joy.
There's a huge penguin in Cut Bank welcoming you to the coldest spot in the nation.
10. Glacier National Park
Bar none, the best national park I have ever been to. Simply astounding, the sights here. Catch it quick though, the glaciers are melting fast.
Yup, it's touristy, but we've made it all the way to the west coast!
Beautiful spot in the Pacific Northwest, we camped here for a night.
13. Tillamook
We were stunned by the beauty of the Oregon coast - we wished we could have stayed a little longer. Just for kicks, we visited a cheese factory in Tillamook.
14. Crater Lake National Park
Blue, blue, blue water. But once you drive around, not a lot to do here.
15. Death Valley National Park
Some like it hot, hot, hot. 124 degrees, drove through with windows down.
16. Las Vegas
Vegas baby .... VEGAS!
17. Grand Canyon National Park
On a 10,000 mile road trip, we would have been embarassed to have missed this one. Even with all the hype, having seen it in the movies ... still took the breath away.
18. Monument Valley
Lots of really cool geological formations and colors here.
19. Moab
20. Crested Butte
To finish up the trip, caught a day game in the Bleachers at Wrigley!
