We thought we had followed the advice--go early, book in advance, and we still stood in line nearly 90 minutes just to get in moved into the line for security, which then took another 45 minutes. We went as part of our City Pass which was the Statue Cruises. We went the first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds in the summer. What can you say it's the Statue of Liberty - you have to go but GET THEIR EARLY. Buy the monument pass ahead of time, get to the ferry at the crack of dawn and head straight for the monument as soon as you get off the ferry. All you need to get on the ferry is a print out... more

i followed all the advice already given about going early in the day and getting tickets online to avoid the big crowds. the day was lovely and the lines were reasonable. the only hitch was that the monument passes were booked more than 3 weeks out so you really need to plan/order ahead if you want to go inside. more

You have to go to the statue of liberty, we stayed in midtown manhattan and the subway ride took 15mins if that...was really suprised actually.
