Just took the morning tour to Alcatraz with hardly any crowds and had a great time. The headsets they give you to do the self-guided tour are excellent, in stereo, so you hear sounds all around you while a terrific history of the island is told to you by ex-inmates and guards. Totally recommend this as must. more

A must see for anyone going to San Francisco. Audio tour excellent. Don't miss the talks they do in the dining hall. Remember to take a jumper! Very breezy. more

I took the 6.50 tour to Alcatraz on 5th July 2008. I'm delighted I went and delighted I booked in advance. I spoke to a lot of people who had left booking until they arrive in San Francisco and found that it was sold out for at least a week. I booked around a month and a half in advance.... more

we took the nighttime tour (greatly influenced by other members reviews ) and it was worth every penny. the self guided audio tour was very well narrated with appropriate background sounds and the voices of former guards and inmates. the guides were very helpful and full of information,always happy to take photos with us in the picture. i was allowed... more

This is well worth the money. We bought e-tickets several weeks in advance and simply hopped right in line at (Hornblower Pier). Got a seat on the top deck and after a quick 15 minute wind blown ride, we had arrived on The Rock. Listen to the ranger give a little introduction and head over and watch the 15 minute... more

AMAZING! We took the night tour at 6:40 and it was fantastic! The audio tour is great -- the entire experience is not to be missed while in SF! Definitely buy tickets online and print out the eTickets -- it was hassel free! more

We chose the night tour which was a lot of fun. They offer a few things you don't get to see during the day. We appreciated the informative audio tour that's included in the price of all tickets. The other programs listed upon arrival are great to listen into. Any that have limited space often offer entry into unique areas... more

Mu husband and I recently visited Northern California for a holiday and took the night tour of Alcatraz. It was really interesting and informative. The information provided on the self-guided audio tour is fascinating. However, the site was REALLY crowded and hard to get access to some of the more popular areas (i.e. the solitary cell).
