Beale Street has a rich history, definitely. However, the establishments here are relatively new (mid 1980's). As I used to live in Memphis, I visited Beale Street all the time and did not hesitate to bring my children there although there wasnt that much for them to do. Not sure how others can view this as a place of family entertainment. I visited briefly during daytime and can only imagine what might go on at night. We just returned from Memphis for spring break. As a single mother, I nervously took my kids, ages 6, 10 and 12 to Beale Street on St. Patrick's Day. There was no need for worry! I loved the food,the music,the fun,it was not over-priced,it was not too crowded yet enough people everywhere to make it enjoyable. it was all good. The BBQ at silky o`sullivans was the best! Delta Highway plays at the juke joint and they play great memphis style blues. It is also safe at nite,we had no problems. more

We visited Beale Street on Saturday afternoon. The scene reminded me very much of Burbon St. in New Orleans. The street is blocked off and there are so many shops, resturaunts, and clubs.
