I brought my two children (12 and 13) to see the factory as a last minute before school starts. They really enjoyed it and I think enjoyed finding out how the tobasco sauce is made. This trip definitely adds to their life experiences and knowledge. The staff were friendly and I was really impressed with how put-together the tour was.... more

Avery Island is worth the drive for the Tabasco Factory Tour (just to say you did it)and the country store (lots of tabasco related products). But really the jewel of Avery Island is the jungle garden; 250 acres of nature preserve with an auto route and ample places to get out and walk and picnic. Right next to the Tabasco... more

We visited this factory and garden because I had a meeting in New Orleans and it was our anniversary. We had a day to kill and decided to spend the night in Lafayette, eat at Prejeans and visit the gardens and bird santuary. The gardens were well kept. We saw lots of alligators and several kinds of birds. The day... more

The minute you step out of your car you are hit with the aroma of Tabasco. The factory tour is short, consisting mostly of an interesting little video and the Tabasco museum. The shop has everything Tabasco you could ever want, even samples of Tabasco flavored ice cream. The gardens and bird sanctuary are beautiful. We saw many birds, a... more

Hubby heard about this place and we love doing factory tours, so we decided to go a little out of our way to stop at Avery Island (in April 2007) near New Iberia, Louisiana. I'm so glad we did! I never even realized that TABASCO is a brand name and not just a general description of "hot sauce"! Before we... more

There isn't much to see, but it was fun! I wish we had been there on weekday. On Saturday the production line is shut down but we still got to see the facility. Don't miss the store. Great gifts. more

I'd always wanted to see this place and was not disappointed. It is a relatively short and attractive drive south from New Iberia. There is a $1 toll to drive on to the island (no toll is charged to leave), which apparently helps pay for conservation efforts. The tours run regularly--they were running every 20 minutes when we were there--and... more

We made the 2.5 hour trip to Avery Island the first time we visited New Orleans. Even if I didn't love tobasco sauce it would have been a fun little stop. You pass through some nice bayou scenery on the way, there's plenty of cajun souvenirs to buy, and Avery Island is very close to Lafayette. Some plantations and small... more

I live here in New Iberia. I was a little shocked not seeing the Avery Island/Pepper Factory as a Main Attraction. So I figured I'd share a little on it. The Pepper Facory is one of the oldest in the World. Avery Island is a wonderful place to take aa drive with the kids. There are many flowers to see,... more

Just back from a trip to Avery Island, LA and an OUTSTANDING visit to the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens. We rented a car in New Orleans and made the approximate 2 hour trip East to Avery Island, passing some beautiful swamp land on the way. Along the way we saw cypress trees, egrets, herons and lots of interesting small... more
