This was one of my favorite places in Ireland. We didn't tour the house, but spent a good amount of time in the gardens and on the property. this place was very relaxing, and great for children. The property is just huge, so you could also go hiking if you wanted to. It would be a great place for a... more

Muckross House, and its surrounding gardens, are actually more spectacular from the outside. The interior of the house (once owned by the Guiness family) is a tribute to hunting, Victorian England, and the 2 day visit of the Queen which ended up bankrupting the owners--and it's just not as luxurious as you would expect. Nevertheless, our tour guide was great,... more

Took the tour of Muckross House while visiting Killarney and it was excellent. The house itself is very well preserved and the guided tour was very interesting and at €5.75 per adult was great value. The grounds are magnificent and well worth a look at. more

If you get the chance and are in the area it is worth seeing. I recommend the guided tour. Unfortunatly we were there to early to see the farm, it was not open yet. It is a very nice place just to walk around and stretch your legs for a bit. Teri from Florida USA more

While we enjoyed our visit to Muckross House and Gardens, it was the Traditional Farm that stole the show for us. You enter from the car park and the walk transports you to a time in the past. There are buildings made up as they would be long ago, and at each place is a host dressed in period costume,... more

I'll grant you that Muckross House is grand and the Gardens truly impressive (just the SIZE of some of the plants!). However, Muckross House is also a great jumping-off point for a trip into Killarney National Park (which Muckross House ajoins). Initially our planned trip was to photograph the Torq Waterfalls, but it quickly turned into a trip up Torq... more

We had a limited amount of time so we skipped the house and just wandered the gardens. They are wonderful and very well maintained. Every time I turned and faced a new direction I thought "What a pretty view!" more

I visited Muckross House in July 2005 and LOVED it. Our guide, Elaine, was so knowlegeable and made the tour through the house so entertaining. One of the highlights of my trip to Ireland. Don't miss it, you'll be doing yourself an injustice otherwise. Check out the Muckross Abbey as well. Although don't drive up to the abbey like I... more

We REALLY enjoyed our visit to Muckross on the 17th December. We walked around the interior of the house, with NO GROUP GUIDES whoopeeee!!!..(sometimes I get a bit fed up of having to take in too much info to be honest)... There was nobody else to be seen in the house either!, just those ghosts of past times!. My child... more

My family and I (a group of eight) visited Muckross House on Monday the 7th of November. We had a most disappointing experience. My daughter had visited in June and had reported that Muckross House had been her favorite experience in Ireland. She related some interesting anectodes and stories of the house and family that she had learned on her... more
