The easiest way to get to Kilmainham Gaol is by bus. If you want to use public transport Dublin bus is the way to go. You can get the 79, 68, or 69, they cost 1.50 and drop you right outside the door the bus drivers will let you know when to get off if you let them know while... more

Actually, I'd probably appreciate being locked up for a week so I could explore this place in full! The hour long (excellent) guided tour didn't show nearly as many aspects as I would've preferred - though most people would probably have found it comprehensive... The visit consists of four parts: Queueing, museum, guided tour and museum, coz there's no way... more

The tour was very informative and interesting, but we were the last group of the day, and many of us felt like we were being rushed out. So, I do recommend it, but go early rather than late. Enjoy! more

A friend from Boston, MA suggested we visit Kilmainham Gaol while in Dublin & I am glad we listened to her. The jail was quite a distance from the city center...we took the Luas red line tram from Lower Abbey Street to the St. James stop then walked the rest of the way there. You can also take the #23,... more

For those of us who visit Ireland to come to a deeper appreciation of our Irish heritage, this tour really is a must. The tour itself lasts only an hour, but is quite powerful in its depth and scope. The tour guides take you deep inside the jail and give great detailed information about the hard life the prisoners had,... more

Kilmainham Gaol was a great stop. The tour was very interesting. We had a difficult time finding it... it was a much longer walk than we expected. It was worth it, though. The whole concept of "reform through architecture" was especially interesting. more

First visit to Dublin we decided to see Kilmainham Goal. The entrance fees were very fair and the tour gude was a joy to listen to. Telling the history of the goal but also the political history of Ireland. It was a real education for me. Fasinating place and well worth a visit if you are visiting Dublin. My kids... more

Tour gives an overview in emotive terms, the modern history of Ireland. Having studied modern Irish histroy, found the tour guide knowledgable. Got through tour, without insighting any kind of anti colonial feeling, which is challenging given the subject. An essential for visiting ireland, whether interested or not in Irish history. more

Having read the excellent reviews on the Kilmainham Gaol, I was looking forward to the visit and believe me it didn't disappoint. Tour takes about 50mins and the tour guide, with an excellent knowledge of the history and politics of Ireland, brought to life the history of the jail through the lives of some of its inmates. Don't miss this... more
