My wife and I, both 40-ish, just returned from PR. We had never experienced a rain forest before, so we spent one half day in El Yunque, mainly hiking the La Mina Falls trail. The upside: The rainforest is truly beautiful and a great experience. The waterfall is nice, not spectacular, but wading at it's base is a worthy experience.... more

The entire experience was surreal. Be ready to walk A LOT. The bamboo trees are gigantic. My only disappointment was the lack of wildlife. Make sure to take a few essentials: Bathing Suit. Water Shoes/ slippers, and prepare to get wet it is a rainforest after all. For food you should find street vendors selling frituras in front of their... more

My husband and I visited El Yunque during our trip to PR on Aug 28,2008. We were driving to Fajardo to catch a flight to Culebra and decided to visit El Yunque on the way. We stopped at the visitor center to get the map of the trail and we watched a movie there. They charge $3 to visit the... more

FIrst, rent a car and drive through the rainforest yourself!!!! This is cheaper and you are on you own time! We took the Big Tree trail to the falls and teh La Mina trail back. We had no problems with the trails, but saw several people out of breathe and needing to rest. I am not in great shape, but... more

Honestly, I do not understand why everyone is raving about the falls. This was the biggest disappointment of our trip to El Yunque. Luckily we found a few other spots that made up for the overrated "hike" to La Mina. We chose to do the 0.8 mile path (La Mina Trail). It took us about 20 minutes to get to... more

The waterfall is beautiful. We were just there less than a week ago. Here are some tips: 1st - rent a car, rent a car, rent a car. DO NOT PAY for a hotel or tour company to take you here. The drive is easy. 2nd - if you don't want to go to the welcome center, keep driving past... more

We chose to do the shorter, but slightly more difficult La Mina hike. Our group consisted of 2 adults, 1 senior, a six year old, and a 14 month old (in a backpack carrier). The hike down was beautiful and went fairly easily. The falls were very pretty, though it was too cold and slippery for me to walk out... more

If your willing and able, a dip in the cool water of the beautiful La Mina Falls is well worth the 30-minute steep downhill (and back) trek. And, if you want a TRUE right of passage, get UNDER AND BEHIND the falls (after you get used to the 65-degree water). Talk about invigorating! more

My mom and I rented a car and drove from Isla Verde to El Yunque. We had no problem with the drive, we took the scenic route along the beach which the Target rental car manager had told us about. It was about 40 minutes. The info center was closed when we were there, so there was no entrance fee.... more

My wife and I visited El Yunque rainforest on March 30th. We rented a car and drove out there from Isla Verde. The trip was pretty easy and took us about 45mins. The guy at Charlie Cars said that there was construction on Rte 3 and took us north of the city. It was nice seeing all the littler beaches... more
